I've said it in the past but I'l say it again: the OVA's are optional and were not written by Isayama (with the exception of the first one, "Ilse's notebook"). In my opinion they do not include vital character development--though several of them are well made & entertaining. It's up to each individual viewer wether we consider them canon or not and personally with most of them I don't.

How can you not understand Eren’s motivation? They literally spelled it out for you. The world had declared war on Paradis in season 4 episode 5 and were going to do genocide against Eren’s people. So the world decided to do genocide first. All Eren did was think, “how can I save my people?”. Literally genocide against the world or more correctly defending himself is the only answer. Only one group can live because unfortunately the world will not stop until every eldian is dead
