As part of the revamp, I've been putting the TfT money to use in hiring cool artists to draw Tamberlane art. The one above is by FTK!

Then this one I bought from MouseDoll_Art!

And this one from AWD!

I've got another couple coming from Charmsey and Silverfox5213.

I'm very pleased with this change of pace. Time will tell if it becomes an effective advertising strategy of any kind, but OCs have become popular for less lol! MOSTLY I'm thrilled with the significant reduction in work. I'd estimate TfT work (writing, planning, coordinating, chasing down artists, contracting, paying, etc) was taking up at least half my work time in a month.

Who else would you love to see me commission for Tamberlane work? They don't have to be open right now; I can keep an eye on things. Note, they must:

 • Have professional credits (willing to be generous with this definition, depending)
 • Be open to drawing furries, children, or both
 • Be outside of my normal circle of buddies (Foxglove, essentially)

(Not taking self-recommendations at this time. Other artists only!)

Current list I'm considering:

I don't know if Emmy Cicierega will ever have open commissions (doubtful) but I'd jump on it immediately

I will always treasure this one I got from her in high school lmao

Edit to Clarify:

Removed the numbers; they weren't really what I was trying to get at.

These are all artists whom I LOVE and I've wanted things from them for a long time (except MouseDoll, whom I found recently and instantly fell in love). I'm stoked to have the opportunity to get to commission them.

The platform/numbers up there was less for "I'll only commission people with X amount of followers" and more to narrow down the recommendations I get.

Honestly, regardless of follower count, what I really want to know is what dream artists would you love to see draw Tamberlane/Belfry? I want to support some awesome artists.

I've been a Patron for a few years, but I think I'm going to drop out. This model of only commissioning already-successful artists as a marketing ploy leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. Times are tough for all artists, but I think we should be supporting each other based on how much you like that artist, not based on their follower count. If someone commissioned me just for views, I'd feel pretty grossed out. I understand you need to make a living and I do sincerely wish you luck. Tamberlane is a great comic. But I can’t get behind this kind of cynical 'support' for fellow artists.

Oh, this is definitely also for artists I love and want to support. I do support smaller artists all the time with my personal money, but this is for an "advertising" budget. This is a really small part of what I try to do to support artists of all kinds. (Also it's just exciting to get to finally have the budget to commission high-price artists; I can't usually do that on my own.) The follower count/platform is more a requirement I'm putting forward when asking for recommendations; I otherwise get flooded with recs that are not what I'm currently looking for. I'm more flexible when I'm hunting on my own. These are kinda "dream commissions" haha That said, if you're not a fan of this, I can understand that. Thank you for all your support over the years!

Thank you for writing this, because this has given me some things to think about. Though I think most of it coming across as cynical and gross was more a problem of me not writing down the goals correctly or communicating well, this definitely has had me thinking about more ways I can integrate smaller artists into the advertising budget. Investing in my community and smaller/unnoticed artists is a pillar of what I want to do with my life and career, so this provides an opportunity to do that. So thank you for speaking up c:

I’m sorry if I was harsh before. I understand the reasoning and I do wish you success! I may feel uncomfortable with this marketing strategy, but I will keep reading Tamberlane and will support any future print volumes even if I’m not a patron anymore. Ultimately you need to do what’s best for you, and I hope this is a positive endeavour for both you & those you commission!
