I’m really excited to announce some updates that are coming to the Tales from Treehollow stories beginning in August! Patrons can look forward to a new format of bonus content in addition to the 5-page guest comics.

What Are Tales from Treehollow?

For a refresher, Tales from Treehollow are one-off stories that are part of the Tamberlane canon but take place outside of the main comic arc. They’re released every month to patrons $5 and higher on the 5th of the month, and are a great way to immerse yourself into the world of Tamberlane with bonus side stories as part of an exclusive Patreon perk.

What’s Changing?

Previously, Tales from Treehollow were only provided in the form of 5-page guest comics, but I will also now be including short stories written by my talented co-writer Ari "Metajoker" Borhanian and drawn by even MORE guest artists!

5-page guest comics will now be available quarterly as opposed to every month, but illustrated short stories will be released every month, right on schedule. In short, the content type and mix will be changing, but the cadence and extended Tamberlane lore exploration will remain the same.

What Does This Mean?

There really isn’t a downside to this, so let me instead highlight the benefits of switching up this cadence to a mix of comics and short stories:

  • More Regular Updates: While guest comics are super awesome, they are labor intensive and require a lot of scheduling, which as much as we try to avoid it, can lead to scheduling bottlenecks. However, short stories are faster to produce because they have fewer moving parts (see also: formatting), meaning they’ll go out on time, every time. All Tales from Treehollow posts will still go out on the 5th of the month.
  • More Artists: There are SO many talented artists I would love to hire for Tamberlane stories, but not everyone’s art or working style lends itself to comic format. With short stories, I can hire illustrators of ALL kinds, not just comic artists, to create stunning one-off visuals for these written works. This means that you’ll see a mix of new faces, familiar artists who otherwise don’t do comics, and a bigger variety of art styles! In addition, artists that were previously out of my budget for a whole comic can now be commissioned to do one or two detailed illustrations for the stories.
  • Higher Per Page Rate for Guest Comics: One of the many MANY reasons I’m so grateful for your support here on Patreon is that it allows me to support other small businesses and indie creators by bringing them into the Tamberlane universe through guest comics, stories, and other skills that all work to make the comic what it is. Though this Patreon has grown, I’m still limited by budget. By making Tales from Treehollow a mix of short stories with quarterly comics instead of monthly comics, I’ll be able to pay my comic artists a higher rate per page, making those quarterly comics extra special and paying my guest artists a fair market rate for their time.
  • A New Story Experience: Short stories will give you a whole new way to experience Tamberlane! You’ve enjoyed Ari’s work through the main comic as well as prior Tales from Treehollow stories, so this will be a fun new way for him to dive even deeper into the world and give you the lore and character exploration you’re looking for.

Sounds Awesome! How Do I Get Them?

All Tales from Treehollow content, from comics to short stories, will be available to all current patrons pledging $5 and higher, released on the 5th of every month. Comics will be released once per quarter.

One month after their Patreon premier, a downloadable PDF of the comic or short story will be made available in the Tamberlane shop to patrons who missed the original release for download for $5 each, with proceeds going to the contributing artists/writers. And one month after that, the public gets a crack at it!

The only way to get this bonus content as soon as it drops is to be a patron at $5+, so if you want even more Tamberlane content and aren’t already a patron or need to up your pledge, more content awaits you by subscribing!

Thanks, all! I’m really, really excited for this new development. The first short story will debut August 5th, so get hyped!

Yes, that sounds pretty interesting! I think these updates are great, although it may all be a little difficult at first to plan, but nevertheless it's all cool idea!
