Hello, friends! I'm musing over the cameos lately. I'm pretty happy with the system in general but especially with the push to lighten my load a bit, I'm considering if there's something that can make us all happy in this realm.

For the moment, this is how the cameo system works:

  • All patrons $50 and above get a cameo in the main comic.
  • $50 cameos get to be in crowds as part of Treehollow, in non-speaking roles
  • $100 and $250 cameos get to have some panels of actual dialogue that move the story along
  • You start with 2 pages of cameo, and for every year you pledge, you get another 2 pages.
  • After a year of pledging at $50, your cameo upgrades to a speaking cameo.
  • Your place in the story is determined by me (and now Ari too!) for what will best suit the story and the character you've given me.
  • I know this sometimes puts characters in a state of limbo, waiting for their time to come up despite your support, and I have started trying to put as many cameos as I can fit into the bonus comics

As the bonus comics have taken on a different life, I've been adjusting my thoughts about them. They're not really bonus comics; they're side comics. They're every bit as canon as the main comic and as time goes on, they're going to weave more and more into the story.

I don't think they'll ever be necessarily required reading to understand the main comic, but they'll offer a far more complete version of the full story.

So here are my proposals:

  • All cameos will get a flat-colored reference of their Tamberverse version of their character. (I have to do this anyway for the side comics.) These are done in order of priority and as-needed.
  • Cameo page quota can be fulfilled by either side comic or main comic. I will always endeavor to cram cameos into the main comic, but in the side comics, you'll get more of a spotlight.
  • For $100 and $250 cameos, you can get a real spotlight on your character in Treehollow. For example, in the upcoming February comic Tainted, the cameo Lizette gets 4 pages of prominence as the social worker working with Cur.

How do you guys feel about these changes?
