The last 5 days have been such a strange and lovely blur.

Last week I was finishing up producing and mixing "Birdsong" (the next song on the album). It was a labor of love. Excitement and confusion and total loss of direction and many moments of nearly losing my mind. On Friday morning I sat down to give my "final" mix a last listen before I turned it in, and 20 mixes and 8 hours later I was finally done. I was reminded of why most people pass off the job of mixing (and often producing) to other people (potential to lose one's mind), but still I wouldn't have had it any other way. The second it was finished and uploaded to the distribution site, I was filled with joy and relief and accomplishment and excitement that yet another song was ready to go have its own life out in the world.

On Saturday, Jesse and I set out to do some location scouting for the music video. I'd had a (complicated and logistically challenging) vision of what it should be, but the closer we got to needing to execute it, the more it felt like every fiber of my being was screaming NO!! By the time we got to the location, we had talked ourselves out of the idea altogether and discovered a much simpler and more fitting idea. One that excited me versus filled me with stress and dread. Sometimes our bodies know what's up!

The stress of finishing "Birdsong" in time and knowing I had a giant crazy music video to shoot and edit in a week had been wearing on me, and now with most of that behind me and/or eliminated, I felt SO LIGHT. I intended to go home and spend the rest of the weekend doing absolutely nothing... but then I had this little creeping feeling, like "hey Kina... if you tried to finish that one song you started 9 years ago right now... i bet you could do it." This is a crazy thought for me because 1. I have a track record of almost none for finishing unfinished songs, and 2. I've tried to return to this song many times over the years, and had zero luck. But as it turned out, I tried, and the song was complete within an hour. *INSERT GIANT CELEBRATION HERE*

But that wasn't it, because the next day came around and out of nowhere I feel that feeling again, like "hey Kina... portal is open. Try to finish more songs!" And so I did, first one and then another, and OH MY GOSH MAKING MUSIC IS SO EXCITING AND MAGICAL!!!

I spent most of yesterday singing my brand new song babies and getting to know them better and it's been awesome. Today I started laying one down in the studio. It's called "History". :)

Ok, that was a lot. Basically, thank you and I love you for allowing me the time and space to be able to create music. It is the best feeling.

So much love, and AHH get ready to meet "Birdsong" this Friday!

p.s. If you joined KG Records for the Online Concert and were planning on cancelling after the show, be sure to do so before Friday (though we'd love to keep you in the family if you want to stay!) <3

The closest I can come to relating to this process is that I schedule desserts at a bakery and I get to eat the finished product when it is done. Hahahaha! Similar to Kina's songs, the finished product goes out into the world for everyone else to enjoy as well!! Looking forward to Friday when my ears get to nibble on the new song. 😉

One of the my favorite things aside from your music is the way that you share bits of your life with us that show that you're vulnerable. I'm such an anxious person with the feeling always at the pit of my stomach before I have something important to do. It's kind of like the way you say you feel before a concert. I hope that UCLA directs me to something I love that casts away these cloudy thoughts that make me nervous. Thanks for being honest!

I’m looking forward to the new song on Friday. With all the stress and hard work in the making of the songs. Please make sure you take some time to relax and have some down time. Touring will start soon and we don’t want to see you burn yourself out. 🤗

I like how you were talking about not being able to finish unfinished songs during the online concert, and then somehow were inspired to do it!

So... the new album is nearly ready AND the songs for ANOTHER album are coming out?

I only support two musicians: You, and local San Diego musician Tom Griesgraber (<a href="http://www.thossounds.com/." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.thossounds.com/</a>). You two are different in every way possible, except in your joy for creating and sharing music. Oh, how I love being a Patron!

I’ve been a Kina fan for a long time now but just joined this group recently and discovered what a succes she has become. It’s been about 7/8 years and it’s the connection to the music and self reflection/honestly that sets her apart. People can relate to her whether overtly or internally. Emotions both happy and sad need to be nurtured and no one expresses that better than her. My 3 small kids love her music too and they are under 5 - kids know when something is good! Anyways is there a poll on what song we would like her to cover next? And is there an eta on new album release? Keep up the amazing work!

There is no poll as far as I'm concerned. But shoot her a suggestion here or on Twitter, it might turn into something :) About the album... She hasn't mentioned any date. But I would assume she wants it out before she goes on tour (around July maybe). If that doesn't happen it will probably have to wait until after the tour (October-November?). But that's just my guess!

It's so nice to see that you are reconnecting with some of your older, unfinished songs. Sometimes creative work has to develop over a long period of time in order to get to its best quality. I've always admired you for putting so much care and love into your music as well as sharing your journey with us :) I am more than happy to be a part of KG Records and I can't wait to meet "Birdsong" and all the music that will come!

You're so fantastic, Kina. Love how you share, love your courage. Hope you're having a wonderful WORLD PENGUIN DAY. Celebrate like a penguin :)

I am blow away by how kind and considerate you are. You just reminded Patrons that they can cancel their membership if they only intended to be along for the recent online concert. Wth? haha That’s complete honesty, and I respect you so much for it! That being said, I’m not one of those people; I’ve been here about a year and don’t intend on leaving. But still. :)

Oh boy, I know that feeling when self-mixing. Have had little projects turn into a whole day gone by, eyes burning out of my head thinking "The 28th mix will surely be it!" It is worth it though, there is NO better feeling than standing back and saying "I Did That!" Congrats on another song, can't wait to hear!
