New Video & Patreon Fee Update (Patreon)
Content
Here's a new video for you--my cover of "When You Come Back Down" by Nickel Creek! I first covered this song on morning television some 7 years ago (surrounded by some OG KG Street Teamers--a very special moment), and a handful of you have been requesting it ever since. (Sorry it took me so long--and thanks for the reminders!) I think this is such a beautiful song with such a lovely message and I hope you enjoy it!
In other news--an update on the new (and since redacted) Patreon Fees you may have heard about a couple weeks ago. The short version for those of you who missed it--Patreon, in an attempt to give a true 95% to creators, announced they were going to start applying a new service fee to patron contributions in order to relieve creators of that cost. This resulted in a bit of unhappiness for both patrons and creators--patrons that supported many creators at lower levels would be hit by a pretty substantial charge every month, and many creators, myself included, were not too fond of the idea of making our already generous patrons have to pay any more than they already do, and were happy to continue covering those service fees ourselves. So the update? Patreon heard everyone loud and clear and the new fees will not in fact be implemented. Hooray! Jack Conte (Patreon Founder, CEO, and generally awesome human) wrote a blog post about the whole thing and I highly recommend giving it a read. Despite this all going down in a less than desirable way, I think the folks at Patreon did a beautiful job of listening to their people (patrons and creators alike), acknowledging their misstep, and changing their plan accordingly and gracefully.
Before I leave, I want to share a little gift I received at the last Coffee Date Hangout from some of your fellow patrons! A few of you secretly orchestrated a collab cover of my Christmas tune "I Know Who Stole The Milk And Cookies"... and it was THE BEST GIFT EVER!! Seeing so many of your faces, knowing you took the time to make this, hearing your actual voices singing my song... well it was incredibly heart-warming, to say the least. Makes me want to see and know even more of you! You can watch it here. Apparently this whole thing went down on our private KG Records Slack channel, so if you want to be involved in fun stuff like this in the future, go make some friends here.
Ok, happy holidays and sending love to you all!! So grateful for your support and company! See you in 2018 <3
