Nvidia should be thinking to about-face their road path for the rest of GeForce RTX 40. Here's whats clear: - gamers don't want to pay $600 for 3080 performance. - gamers STILL don't want to pay $600 plus a $100 Steam GC for 3080 performance. - gamers might give in at $500 for 3080 performance but the damage has already been done its clear that gamers do not want to pay more than $500 for something current generation midrange. now that being said, nvidia better be thinking real hard on how to effectively sell a 4060 class card. i think they should nix the whole 4060 Ti thing and just stick with just a 4060. the way i see it, nvidia has NO TIME to bullshit around with extra card segmentation when it is CLEARLY not needed to answer their current supply and demand problems. whether that means bringing the rumored 4060 Ti configuration and renaming it a 4060 or something else, it is clear that nvidia CANNOT try to even get close to charging the same price to performance the 4070 offers at the 60 class customer base. they NEED to do better. like it's actually going to be a problem moving forward if they don't make a good first impression with the 4060. whatever happened to the rumored 160-bit 10GB AD106 desktop card? now that VRAM is under media scrutiny more than ever, a 10GB card would survive the media onslaught MUCH better than an 8GB card again! PRICE CONSCIOUS BUYERS. this is a consumer base you CANNOT fuck up for the next 2 years.

Hi Tom, in one of your recent videos, you said a contact at Nvidia said that they're watching the PC gaming space about our reactions to their graphics cards in regards to performance, price, vram, etc. It got me wondering, hypothetically speaking, if you were CEO of Nvidia, how much VRAM and what price would you set for each card in their lineup? Also, how many leather jackets would you have in your collection?

Hi Tom. Long time listener and 20Ghz supporter, first time writing in. I have really enjoyed yours and Dan's takes on all the recent and upcoming advancements from AMD's APU and integrated graphics divisions. I found your take on the upcoming STRIX Halo product, and inevitable subsequent releases, to be particularly prescient because of the implications for both power consumption, cost of manufacturing, and adaptability (shared, allocable memory pools between compute and graphics) as compared to traditional low end GPU / CPU combinations, particularly on mobile. All of the excitement and discussion around these products reminded me of the anticipation for and advent of intel's cherry trail line of Atom chips from the better part of a decade ago. I distinctly remember listening to PCPer, Linus, TekSyndicate, and other big names at the time discussing the possible implementations of this new tier of low powered mobile computing. I wound up purchasing some AliExpress Amazon rebrand 2-in-1 Android / Windows tablet convertible for my kid brother, and I fondly remember us using it to play Minecraft and Half-Life 2 while in a doctor's office waiting room just because we could. Ultimately though, the novelty of these products wore of quickly due to few and poorly implemented design wins, lack of software support / infrastructure, and because the performance and power consumption weren't really good enough to make these SOCs particularly useful outside of low powered Chromebooks. Since then, however, the landscape has changed a lot. AMD is resurgent and offering legitimately best-in-class graphics and compute performance at low power consumption. These chips are actually implemented in many successful and highly anticipated design wins, such at the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and related products like thin and light gaming laptops and mini PCs. Most importantly, the advancement of Linux gaming through Valve's efforts with SteamOS has at least somewhat successfully decoupled PC gaming from Windows, allowing a lot more room for software advancement which isn't held hostage by Microsoft licensing. Therefore, my question is this: What possible pathways could you see opening up in the next 2-5 years if this trajectory continues? Could we see a "SteamDeck phone" with Nintendo Switch style detachable joypads and running on some x86 fork of Android or custom linux based Steam operating system? In a couple years, it should be possible through node advancements, software optimization, and other innovations to be able to have the current level of performance we see on all of these actively cooled windows handhelds on a passively cooled smartphone SOC. I think that a lot of people would be drawn to PC gaming if they were able to play their Steam library on their super high powered, OLED display smartphone without having to buy a "middle ground" device like the Steam Deck. What do you think? Could this legitimately lead to a revolution of mobile gaming in a way that enthusiasts have dreamt about for years? What would be necessary for something like this to succeed and what possible obstacles or roadblocks could relegate this fad to the same fate as Cherry Trail from last decade. Thanks, and keep up the good work.

Now that I have seen Intel's earnings my God! It isn't the end of the world but yikes at any rate. What really bothered though is that my concerns I mentioned about Intel in Die Shrink 96 are starting to look all too real. Too much inventory of old and not enough of new. They can't sell the old fast enough. I am thinking Intel is out until 2025 at this point

Hello Tom, Thank you for all the hard work. Have you heard anything about these new Zen 5 APUs that are coming out for laptops in the next year or so possibly coming out on desktop as well?

Hi Tom, what do you think AMD's strategy is by releasing the 7600 before the 7700XT and 7800XT? I find it interesting the release order for the lineup is this time around compared to last gen, where everything was gradually released whereas now they are going (I presume) high end, low end and then mid tier. Do you believe that the poor launch and reception to the 4070 was a factor in this strategy?

Dave Scholze

What do you think, are there gonna be some big and exciting changes to the AM5 platform on Zen 5s arrival? Or any info about the support of higher DDR5 speeds?

XTX 999

Hello Tom, when watching gamers nexus’ video of EVGA deciding to leave months ago, at the time I couldn’t picture how bad it could be to where they would decide to leave a segment that is their namesake e*VGA*. But now I can kind of understand. Seeing as cards are not moving, what are AIB’s saying in the background? Have they tried to push back to NGreedia or have they just accepted this reality.

Cleansweep

Hey Tom, Any word on what kind of performance to expect from any accelerators in Zen 5 CPUs? Will they be comparable to the ones in the AMD APUs you just leaked?

Jen-Hsun Huang

Why do you keep saying that the 4070 is a slow seller when it is the fastest selling sub $700 Ada Lovelace GPU?

qhfreddy

HUB Steve recently tweeted that at above $300, they would give an 8GB GPU a bad review. What do you think the maximum price for an 8GB card should be?

XTX 999

With Zen 5 expected to use 4nm from TSMC and remaining with 8 core chiplets, do you think AMD will lower the price across the board with zen 5? Considering how bad zen 4 sold at launch until the prices dropped, will AMD go in with a different plan or will they argue the opposite because of the big ipc increase?

Due to the insufficient VRAM on both camps' 6 tier cards, and the rising power of APUs, are 6 tier cards going to be squeezed out of the lineup in a gen or two?

Hey Tom, Can we expect to see an increase in CPU PCIe lanes in either Zen 5 or Meteor/Arrow Lake? The current 24/20 lanes feels very constraining for a desktop, you basically get a GPU and one or two NVMe storage drives before you start reducing your PCIe bus width or disabling drives or USB 4, etc. Not to mention that AM5's chipset to CPU 4.0 x4 uplink is woefully insufficient for running anything requiring even remotely high bandwidth through the PCH. Current gen CPUs are so powerful at this point, yet the platforms they're on don't seem like they actually reflect their capabilities. And while HEDT is still technically available, it seems ridiculous that someone should have to shell out thousands for TR Pro or SPR-WS for all these extra features they don't need just so they can have a second GPU or a RAID add in card or a high speed NIC when just having like 32-40 lanes would be more than enough for the prosumer crowd. Also if you have any additional whispers about the status of Titan Ada I would love to know, my workload could really benefit from a 48GB Lovelace card but I'm not willing to shell out $6800 for RTX Ada 6000 (also ugh what a horrible confusing name)

What is your take on the recent Zen 5 leaks analysis video from AdoredTV?

Dear Tom, What do you think of the recent news that the new Jedi: Survivor game uses 18gb and tries to allocate over 22gb of VRAM on PC w/ a 4090? Poor optimization that should be fixed in a patch? Or are all cards under 24gb now irrelevant for 1440p and above gaming? 😂 Thanks.

Dr Forbin

I do not understand the confusion here with consumers. Platform cost is a thing. GPU'S have greatly increased the cost of building a PC. What will drive cost lower because right now there is no competition?

Alexander

I'm currently using a 1440p60 monitor, and thinking of upgrading. Would you go for 1440p OLED or 4k LCD? Both would be ~27", 120hz+, and either will be a huge upgrade. OLED costs quite a bit more but seems like some people swear by it. Or would you recommend waiting for OLED to come down in price enough to be able to get a 4k OLED? (Ideally <$750)

Sarcastro

Hi Tom, Any updates on issues with RDNA 3 Can the issue be fixed at the driver or Bios level or is. It an architectural issue?

AlieNate

So it seems if you don’t have enough for a 4090 then sacrifices must be made in in game settings , what would you rather sacrifice, in game textures (nvidia low vram) or ray tracing (amd)? Meaning if you have to choose a card based on having more vram for textures or a card with better ray tracing abilities for the best in game visuals and experience what do you suggest?
