This episode is yet another one we've had planned for months - challenge us!

Undoubtedly many of you have been listening to Tom and Dan waffle about for months or even years now...and I am sure there are some opinions we hold that many of you either want us to provide more supporting arguments for, or you just flat out don't agree with and want to discuss why we might be missing something...

This is all in good faith of course - we are looking to have a friendly discussion with you all - but yeah, push back on us about anything and everything relating to Nvidia, AMD, Intel, PlayStation, XBOX, and Nintendo gaming hardware!

And by the way - you don't need to ask a question that tries to directly argue with us.  You can of course also simply ask us questions that you aren't sure we'd agree with, and/or that you think me and Dan might have a disagreement on.

You have ~3 hours to submit questions below.  Be concise, use good grammar, and keep it respectful!

If Nvidia keeps raising prices for even older tech each gen, wouldn't this cause cheapskate Nintendo to switch to an AMD SoC eventually? What would it take for that sort of shake-up?

I am one of those crazies that bought a 7900x. 12 cores are plenty for the mix of gaming and 3D modeling I do. It has a high base and boost clock and good TDP. I got a great deal on the price. At the time I bought in December a 7950x was about $150 more for no measurable difference in high refresh rate 4k gaming. I felt it was the right mixture of price, performance, and TDP. When a new AM5 CPU is performing 50% better, I can drop it in. Am I really that crazy for not going with a 7950x?

What are your thoughts on the fact that owning a PlayStation is increasingly becoming less necessary this generation? Now that Sony is releasing a lot of their games on PC and their ports are for the most part well received. I sold my consoles and only play on PC and Steam Deck now. All I have to do is be patient and I can play almost every game.

Chris Rijk

While I agree with you that the 7950X3D is a weird product I have to disagree with your suggestion of a dual V-cache version. It would not be any faster except in some minor edge-cases that will likely reduce with time. It'd have to be more expensive. AMD is almost certainly production constrained on 3D stacking so this means less volume as well. It would be cool though.

Here's a topic you might disagree on: software companies too often get away with buggy, bloated and slow software. Microsoft being one of the worst offenders. Would you approve of companies being fined for such things, like they can be for security breaches?

Thoughts on battery life for recent PC laptops - will this improve in the future? Comparing to MacBooks where you get good battery life even when doing somewhat intensive tasks.

An idea I've seen/heard repeated on the channel a lot is that a cheap console is a viable replacement for a gaming PC, especially with the Series S. I would push back against this heavily. Console games are not only more expensive, but also heavily limited. You can't map controls, you're limited to certain input devices, and the FOV is so low it makes some people seasick. Sure, this got better recently with FOV sliders and the ability to use the keyboard and mouse in some console titles, but it's still a far cry from a PC's capability. Also, while consoles are more convenient, I'd argue they are only so for "corporate approved" experiences - as in, the latest, most profitable ones, while if you want to play last year's Call of Duty, you might as well die in a fire for all they care. On a PC, you can buy older games off of GOG or Steam, play them in resolutions the developers couldn't even dream of, and mod them into entirely new experiences. I'm personally especially amazed at some of the multiplayer related stuff I've seen over the years - dedicated servers for the old Modern Warfares and Black Opses (which were lobby-only back in the day), modded Battlefield 3 servers, private servers for long-dead MMORPGs. None of this would be possible in the console world, and so I wouldn't even take the Xbox Series S if it was 20 dollars. Sorry for the wall of text, 3 hours isn't a lot of time to think of a topic and be concise.

Why don't tech reviewers discuss the cost of running hardware a few hours per day a year? Inefficient hardware would stick out like a sore thumb under that kind of scrutiny.

Shryquill

What are your thoughts about reviewers omitting the price of cooling a CPU from a price/performance comparison? CPU cooling demands can vary wildly from one model to the next, some can run at full speed with their stock cooler, while others need more exotic and expensive cooling solutions. E.g Ryzen 7700 vs 13700K

You've had this planned for months but only provide a 3-hour window for paid community members to make submissions? I'd like to see you explain that one, Tom.

Yeah, seriously. I would’ve liked to put something in but due to timezone difference only got around to read the announcement now

Actually, I think you can map controls in the Xbox Settings iirc, since you can change it on an Elite Controller - and I’m pretty certain you can do it on a regular controller - I’ll check myself later - additionally, most Xbox players don’t purchase games any more and instead use Xbox Game Pass which is technically a lot more affordable than buying the games outright. Also, iirc, Xbox Game Pass for Xbox, has a lot more games than Xbox Game Pass for PC. You’re also not always limited to certain input devices, since you can link up a keyboard and mouse (albeit not many do that), as well as use an adapter that allows you to use any controller on the console - so you’re not limited to just the Xbox Controller.
