Broken Silicon's next guest will be Steve from Hardware Unboxed!  We are currently planning to at least discuss:

  • Zen 4 X3D
  • Raptor Lake Refresh
  • What we think of RDNA 3 and Lovelace Performance & Pricing so Far
  • How RDNA 3 vs Lovelace competition will evolve through 2023
  • DLSS 3 vs FSR 3
  • The state of Intel ARC
  • Hopes for RDNA 4, Zen 5, Meteor Lake, Arrow Lake, and other future products
  • Whatever else you all ask about!

Steve is of course capable of discussing anything remotely related to gaming hardware, and additionally it's been a long time since he's come on Broken Silicon - so this episode has MANY topics we can cover regarding things that have happened in the past 12 months, and also that we expect to happen in the next 12 months. Don't hold back, ask away about anything!

NOTE: We will be recording this episode after the Nvidia GTC Keynote on 3/21/23 to ensure we don't miss any announcements. That of course means this episode will be coming out a day late...and that also means that you can choose to submit questions immediately...or submit them quickly after the Keynote show.  Either way you have ~24 hours to submit questions below.  Be sure to use good grammar, be as concise as possible, and be respectful to have your submission considered for the show.

Have the RDNA 3 driver updates so far in your opinion been what you would have expected as far as performance improvements given the time the cards have been out? Are you still optimistic about 10-20% performance improvements through drivers?

Hi Steve. I currently own the Odyssey Neo G8 (The 4K 240Hz one). I got it as a still factory sealed open box for only $990. I have been daily driving it on my RX 6800 XT now for almost 4 months. Ever since I started to use it, I have found that it really does like my monitor alot. Have you found in your testing if Radeon cards play better with certain brands or it is just a case-by-case basis? P.S. - Gaming on this at 4K and HDR 1000 has officially made me believer in HDR! :)

Hey Tom and Steve! What are your favorite topics to make videos on for your respective channels? (e.g. GPU reviews, leaks, etc.)

Are you disappointed with the gains from memory overclocking on DDR5? Did you expect better or worse?

Will Intel implement its own VSR? Also, when will we have it on Linux?

With the exception of the 82574L, Intel wired Ethernet NICs used to be the gold standard. However, the I226/I225 seem to be a disaster. Could you say what happened to cause their quality to go downhill?

Good afternoon Tom and Steve, although I'm not expecting a pricing announcement on the 4070, $750 (or even $700) sounds historically bad. How would you reset pricing on the Lovelace lineup to make sense to consumers? Not expecting ampere launch levels of value (3060, 3070, & 3080 all would have been excellent values had they been around at MSRP), but something that makes sense?

Why do tech YouTubers not do more RISC-V and AARCH64 content?

Hi Steve, ignoring special modes like DLSS and FSR, are games becoming any easier to benchmark? What would you like game developers to do in order to make benchmarking better? What about non game benchmarks?

I remember when people went ballistic whenever nvidia was caught cheating by replacing a shader with a cheaper version in their driver. Knowing this, I would have expected outrage over DLSS , but instead, we have AMD and Intel trying to implement their own alternatives. What changed?

Hey Everyone what is your thoughts on Raja Koduri leaving Intel? Hope this question got in on time.

Nicolas Terroir

Hello Tom and Steve, do you think is it more important to play in 4k at 30fps or at 1440p at 120fps? Do you think gaming at 4k at 120fps is possible in the next 5 years? Right now, for me, the difference between 1440p and 4k is minimal.

When do you think you need to update your pc and especially your gpu? Is it better to buy an high end gpu and keeping longer than buying a mid tier gpu and changing it often?

Hi Tom and Steve, great to hear you chatting again! One thing that went a bit undiscussed this GPU generation was the fact that AMD pulled an Nvidia by implementing double purpose compute units (int and float) and Nvidia pulled an AMD by implementing a large cache with narrower memory buses. Do you think it might be interesting to have a comparative analysis between the respective implementations? For instance, I remember that we were disappointed with the Nvidia performance uplift vs the theoretical expected performance. There seems to be a similar issue this generation with AMD. Any interest in doing a comparative analysis, any thoughts on the problem? Thanks in advance!
