Nvidia launched their biggest graphics card ever at a correspondingly high price point…and then AMD launched their more efficient and similarly performing flagship at an insanely lower price weeks later...

...Am I talking about RDNA 2 vs Ampere? Nope! I am talking about the GTX 280 vs HD 4870!

2008-2009 saw a resurgence of RADEON that unlike recent launches…actually gained market share from Nvidia. Tom & Dan talk about this legendary era of PC Gaming, one that kicked off the “PC Gaming Renaissance.”

I wouldn't say that RDNA 1 will be forgotten. My 5700XT was a great card, punched well above its weight class and actually got better with age. It also fetched a good amount of coin almost 2 years later which allowed me to snatch up a sweet Merc Black 6900XT. I freaking love this card. She runs cool AF too at 2500mhz junc temp stays under 70 C, Death Stranding @ 2k ultra locked at 144hz, When I sold my 5700XT and looked at pricing for my replacement, I couldn't even sniff a damn 3080. The 3080's were like 2500 and the 3090s were over 3500! I don't regret getting the 6900XT at all man I've had it over a month and I'm still so stoked I got a top tier card for the first time in my life. Merc Black is one of the best designed cards I've ever seen, it's right up my alley, brushed metal and black, no crazy angles or absurd thickness. She looks damn good.
