First off, apologies for not posting an update these past couple of days. I was going to do it on Monday before the hockey game, but it started three hours earlier than I thought it was and I drank a bit too much. Yesterday, I spent about 6 hours on making a map and just spent the last two hours making another map. I'm picky about maps. But anyways, I figured it'd be good to do this so I have a good reference for myself.

Keep in mind that neither of these are 100% how the world looks, but should be enough to give you a general idea. Kind of.

First thing you may notice is that the world - well, I don't know how obvious this is, but it's flat! No, I don't really believe Earth is flat. I just thought it would be fun to draw from Discworld's world and Rance's world.

As for how I make the maps, I'll generate anywhere from 10 to 20 worlds in Dwarf Fortress, export the site/biome maps, run them through a filter in Photoshop to simplify them a bit so that they don't look like - well, a Dwarf Fortress map anymore.

Then I take the continents and islands I like from those maps and mix-and-match them with other maps and just sort of toss everything together. Then I apply another filter to get everything kind of blending better. It's definitely not a perfect method. I've tried making maps more traditionally before, and while I made a few nice (imo) ones years ago, it took me a lot of time.

Anyways, the first map there is a bit of a clusterfuck. I was thinking I wanted one giant landmass, but ehhh. The second one I think might be closer to what I want and it kind of has a bit of a figure eight going on if you look hard enough. But, it needs more land.

As far as climate goes, I'm thinking the center will be the hottest with the edges being more arctic. I'm also thinking of making a good chunk of the world just barren land for the most part. Rather than be ocean out to the edge, it'd just be barren. But, I'll worry about that at some other time. I've got a good enough feeling for the world now to proceed! Alas, the second match is on in 30 minutes...
