Greetings! This weekend I have a commissioned track to share with you. Requested by Crimson, this is a track "in the style of RUNNING" - for which I was quite grateful, as RUNNING is one of my favorite albums, and one I would very much like to revisit stylistically.

RUNNING I conceived of originally as music to suit the at-the-time Minecraft server associated with my Discord community. I've never felt like Minecraft's music fits the game, and I think that RUNNING does a pretty good job at creating a mood that is more in tune with its overall mental aesthetic. For me that involves a feeling of constant exploration, weird self-expression, and a dangerous sensation that time is passing too quickly.

Some of my most cherished memories of Minecraft are from over 10 years ago, when I first played the game, I had never experienced anything in any game before that made me feel so alone and vulnerable. The sensation of exploring deeper into unknown spaces that eventually eat up hours of your time; the danger of that experience, each turn, each new space explored potentially being the last. Minecraft makes me feel very fragile, and each moment blends strangely into infinity as you explore areas that feel both familiar and completely alien.

The motifs and style of RUNNING play into those feelings for me, and serve to highlight the weirdness that I associate with Minecraft - a game that is a strange mirror of the natural world, repeating and yet never repeating itself.

I feel that Between Layers is consistent with the spirit and style of RUNNING, and I hope you enjoy getting to hear it. Eventually I will be releasing this commission and others as free downloads on my Bandcamp, so look forward to that.

As an aside, I am currently working on one other commission, and I am actively taking new ones. If you are interested in commissioning me, you can find more information here. Thanks for reading, and for supporting my work as always!
