For complicated backgrounds, I create a simple 3d model then I use a photo of this model as a base for drawing the scene. I'm not good with perspective and it helps a lot.

Imagine the time if I had to make the background from nothing. Or look at Avril's Ex backgrounds where I didn't use this method.

I don't always proceed like this, it depends of the environment.


You can recognize this place in the game.

If the scene needs to be from another angle, I can open the 3d model and change the photo I will use. But I still have to do draw over the photo reference to make it 32 colors and good looking.
