This is the episode where we find out that Wen KeXing is a little shit~~ And I love it 😆

MavenCree

Brittany: So now what? Me: Wait for it... in 3, 2, 1...

MavenCree

They use their inner force to hover, or bounce over things like water or trees or rooftops. The stronger the force, the longer they can hover, but they still need something to bounce off of, so like they couldn't do much falling into the Grand Canyon for example. Same force ZZS uses to regulate his pain and what they used to ease the pain of old man Li before he died.

MavenCree

Omg Guys... Brittany is calling Granny a bad bitch. We may need to send an ambulance over for the first time she sees "Trig." 😵🚑

zorah

Brittany, watching you Going Through It with Wen KeXing is my favorite thing in the world right now. I knew I wasn't alone! Will we ever be blessed with a more beautiful Confident Gay than this? I don't think I could take it.

MavenCree

Watching Brittany watch Wen KeXing annihilate the censorship wall. 🤣🤣🤣😍

MavenCree

You do remember that drinking over the crossed wrists/arms is part of the wedding ceremony, right? 😁

MavenCree

He's not hungry cause, yes the wound, but mostly because he's still mourning. Remember it's only been a day since his whole family was slaughtered...

MavenCree

...You're REALLY gonna have to go to two episodes per week soon...

MavenCree

100% they ran out of money. It is actually quite edited. You'll find out how much with the lip reading thing.

Your reaction as you realised WKX been watching ZZS all night? That was smooth ... Then, the moment you realised that WKX had become a stalker ... There's no fate, only WKX at work. Let's not talk about the newly acquainted siblings ... Big sis trying to act all cool while best boy being the youngest deserves all the love and care.

So....I had to watch this show two times in the beginning. First time, I watched it for Wen KeXing and Zhou Zhishu. Then I realized there is something called "plot". I had to watch this show for the second time. That is how I survived this show. Now I gleefully watch unsuspecting people fall into the trap. * laughs evilly *

I don't know if this will help (it is just my understanding of things so take it with a grain of salt... more like a chunk. If anyone has a greater knowledge on the topic, be my guest and correct me if I'm wrong or even slightly off) about the genre of Word of Honor - it is wuxia with sprinkles of xianxia (but the sprinkes are there for parody effect rather than for fantasy of it). What is wuxia? It's a hero story. Heroes use exaggerated martial arts and can jump, fly-like long jumping I mean - MavenCree explained this one. There is no golden-core discussion. Most of the things are what martial arts in reality are + extra dragging on the string, super jumps and more power in a fist. It's still fantasy genre so there are little things like ZZS's bendy sword or GJ's smile (it belongs in fantasy genre bc it is unreal, don't fight me). In xianxia - it's all about cultivation and becoming immortal + being the best. There are magic-like powers, special talismans that do things and music-magic - it all rolls around golden core, inner strength etc. In both genres they can use swords to fight but in xianxia sword is used as a catalyst of the inner power, in wuxia - it is just a tool, and extension of skill. So in xianxia we have flying on swords, in wuxia - we don't. In both there are heroes/cultivators and ordinary people. The Untamed is xianxia. That would be the extent of my knowledge. I hope this helps a little to understand the rules of this world.

The actors went crazy with ad-libbing, so crazy that the directors had to chill them out sometimes. Like the "Is it pretty" "It's perfect" part was ad-libbed. It's hilarious

"I thought this kinda thing wasn't allowed in China" was on my mind each and every episode of this show. I've watched the whole thing a few times and what we got in the end (even with what was censored) still amazes me.

zorah

I love how fast Gu Xiang adopts ChengLing. And that for her, adoption means immediate bullying to get him to eat something. She is an absolute treasure and I adore her.

O Fowler

This show really makes the joss paper (like, paper money burned for the dead--they burned it for Peacock in The Untamed ) super creepy as a symbol of the Ghost Valley. "The Soul-winding spell of Hanging Ghost"-- remember from episode 1 that Hanging Ghost is definitely dead, but in episode two one of the masked guys claimed to be him. Even Gu Xiang was mentioning him in this episode. They KEEP talking about him and his razor-thread thingy, so I was sooo confused on the first watch. They made a point of showing him die in the first episode, but all the characters still seem to think he's alive. That super confused me on the first watch.

Lisa Kleine

No worries, Brittany. I think we all watched that scene ("Is it pretty?" - WKX leaning in as close as is allowed - "It's perfect.") at least twice, when we first saw the episode, stunned beyond belief, but really, unspeakably happy about it ;D Then the wedding ceremony *cough* I mean the cup clinking with crossed wrists and finally, ZZS gave in and flirted back by gliding his fingers very pointedly across WKX wrist and hand when taking the liquor from him :DDD Gu Xiang is as always our precious wild girl and Chengling our best boy we worry about. ♥

O Fowler

I mean, we didn't lie about the censorship thing? This show had zero buzz and zero expectations, but my friend and I decided to watch the first couple episodes just to see? And we LOST OUR MINDS. WEN KEXING TOUCHED HIS FACE (trying to detect the disguise *wink, wink*) and then SMELLED HIS FINGERS. I died. It's sooooo satisfying to see you go through the same thing!

a.Lynn

Hard agree that ghost valley are all theater kids

JoannaB

You are me when I first wached WOH. Every episode I was like "Who allowed this?" and "Whom I should send a thank you note?". The writing for this series was so good that censors probably gave up.

Jennifer D

Your reactions are literally all of us watching this episode for the first time, they are such a TREAT! I also get distracted by the beautiful scenery and costumes (NOTE: The costume designers put a lot of thought into those and how they reflect each character's emotional state/status, so keep track of those...). I split-second Banshee-shrieked when Zhou Zhishu slid his hand along Wen Kexing's to take the wine.

Mischa

ZZS: is it pretty ? WKX : it’s perfect 😉 Brittany *coughs the gay away*

zorah

I'm usually a pretty quiet viewer, but THIS SHOW. I feel like I have to space out my episodes, to spare my poor neighbors from the screaming.

Jennifer D

I also forgot to add: this episode, as others have noted, is where we start to see more lines edited post-production to be less gay if you can believe it. Gong Jun's original line where Wen Kexing notes that "a big surprise must wait underneath his disguise" was actually "underneath the disguise must be a very rare, beautiful person". Mandarin-speakers please feel free to correct/clarify this as I got this from Avenue X's lip reading videos : )

Jennifer D

LOL, I think we all were barely able to take it with Wen Kexing (Britanny is clearly struggling)

Jennifer D

I kept getting whiplash between the show flinging the gay in your face, and then having to try to focus on the "plot". Your strategy was sound.

Iwona Zych

About the censorship, I find this video very informational (Eng subs provided by Nana): https://twitter.com/NanaBeingNana/status/1351959492884312068

Now waiting for next Sunday already 🤪

That moment when you realize that they're dropping the double entendres and go straight for the single entendres... ;) I was really stunned when I first watched it, after having raved about the "obvious gay" on The Untamed and later on Guardian - and then this runaway train comes barrelling straight through anything resembling plausible deniability and just FLAUNTS itself like it has no SHAME! Love it. <3

clmoryel

^^^This! Also, as the only surviving member of his family, he's obligated to avenge their deaths, which, for a young boy who's not a strong martial artist, is probably super stressful.

clmoryel

There's a fantastic meta post on AO3 about wuxia tropes like this one, but it's filled with WOH spoilers, so I'll wait until we have a fan rec doc for this series like the one you created for The Untamed before adding a link to it.

boldly hold

I'm really loving the full reactions! For the untamed, I'd already watched it several times when I watched your reactions, so could keep up if parts were skipping. But for WOH I've only seen it the one time. Watching it for the second time with you is a delight, and watching it full length really helps me from getting lost. And yeah... how the hell did this pass the censors?

MavenCree

Guardian - Training Wheels. The Untamed - Bike with cards clipped to the spokes, Word of Honor - small jet plane.

Jessica Anderson

maybe they ran out of Money because they bribed the censors

Rhast

So this is episode 3....Brittany...I think they might be gay? I dunno. It's a feeling I get? Just, it's the vibe I'm feeling. 😌 Also I'm watching this with my brother in law, and he called the old couple 'the watermelon couple' and now I can no longer see anything else or take them seriously. They are the watermelon couple Maybe.... just maybe.... Best Boys whole sect AND family was murdered? And maybe that's affecting his appetite? Also, he might have a gut wound? Just maybe? And maybe his new sister is hitting him with facts and logic to make him eat something? I dunno. I'm real drunk right now. Not gonna lie. Edit: I'm a blood person. (That sounds weird but go with it. I do phlebotomy.) A hemostatic is something 'to stop blood flow' or to make you clot. What a Xu is actually giving him, I dunno. I assume ancient Chinese medicine

Rhast

God I know, right? And like....I LOVE Hannibal. A lot. I offer prayers to Brian Fuller. But I look forward to this more.... I'm low key feeling ashamed as a Fannibal.

Brittany immediately falling into a coughing fit after the gayness that is the “is it pretty?” scene, i felt that

Anonym WLW

This is the episode where you really start to see just how gay this show is. I mean, the wedding ceremony wine drinking? Taking the bottle of wine like THAT? Not to mention all the stalking! On the plot side of things, it’s getting complicated. I’ll try for a spoiler-free overview of the characters you’ve met so far, but if there’s anything in here that people think is too spoilery, I’ll remove it. So you’ve got the Five Lakes Alliance, whose five leaders are sworn brothers. The first brother, Gao Chong, appeared in this episode to give a speech about Ghost Valley. He’s the guy with the white streak in his hair. The second brother you haven’t met yet, but you’ve heard of him: Zhao Jing, the guy they’re bringing Chengling to. The third brother they talked about a little, he’s the guy who died and left his two disciples with Ao Laizi (tree guy). Notably, he didn’t send them to any of his sworn brothers. The fourth brother was Chengling’s father, Zhang Yusen. And lastly, the fifth brother is Shen Shen, the guy who arrived at Mirror Lake Sect by jumping over the water. Then there’s Elder Huan, who is the leader of the Beggar Gangs, and the old couple, Tao Hong and Lu Liu (who by the way I love. Running around, telling all these important leaders off and giving no shits? Iconic) There are… a lot of other sects in this universe, but most of them aren’t that important to understand the plot. You’ll pick up on those that are once you get there.

Anonymous

Fun fact: the “Is it pretty?” “It’s perfect” scene was actually an adlib from Gong Jun and Zhang Zhe Han. Most of their iconic scenes were either adlibs or suggested by ZZH, it was really fun to watch their bts scenes where he’s kinda directing GJ how to flirt lmaooo

Omni

I guess someone has already explained the wedding ritual forced upon Ah Xue, over the tea toast, to you. Fun stuff! Really great reaction! :-) The exposition gets heavy, but Wen Ke Xing brings us back to the heart of the show. Hang in there, it's about to get even more awesome. Again, thank you for this. If you wanted to increase your asking prince for this show, I'd pay the premium. Your vidyard links are so much more reliable than Google's. I found that out the hard way, don't change your setup. Please make more instantly and miraculously. Episode 6 is the point of no return. Bless you. :-)

alice lotusbuns

we love seeing how much WOH pushes the censor envelope !! the shmoney was definitely saved for the scenes that matter + wardrobe/hair !! other notes !! I love how much attention youre giving the babies (chengling and gu xiang) god theyre the best honestly and yes, honestly the concern for our favorite designated best boy truly gets you on the edge of your seat at times omg. excited for the next ep !!!

Clare

Id forgotten how much flirting was in this show. It's so obnoxious. I love it.

goldmund

I love your new co-host!

Anonymous

It was this episode that my hubby turned to me and went "They're my gays now. You can't have them back". LOL! I love this show so much, and your reactions just make it all the better.

Anonymous

When you finish this show and rewatch it. All Wenkexing's flirting becomes so natural and comes with a reason.

Anonymous

Also, Youku has special versions with uncut scenes to make it more gay and you have to watch Avenue X explain the 'candies' because another way they got around the censors is through the dubs. What was dubbed wasn't what was actually said in some scenes. Avenue X really breaks it down. Those would be fun to react to.
