So one thing that I always get teary eyed over, that I've never seen anyone else mention... When WWX is playing the love song on the leaf, A Yuan says it sounds familiar. But LWJ has NEVER played that song for anyone except WWX. So A Yuan would just hear it coming from the Jingshi(or wherever in private like the bunny field) while Dad was being sad. And this happened enough times for A Yuan to recognize it from this shitty version all the way from the roof. Edit: so I know you said you won't react to every rewatch, but I would totally watch them all. I love watching you react to everything you suddenly realize you missed.

That, but also he could have heard it from wwx himself in the Burial Mounds! And, best option of all, he could have heard it from both of them!

Didn't you also notice the silhouette at the beginning, in the place where the Lan ducklings are? 👀 The one with the fan? Also the one at the end of the first episode that pays the guy who talked about the Yiling Patriarch?

There’s also a thing with Jiang Cheng’s expressions during that scene on the cliff. In the first episode he looks angered and full of hatred for Wei Wuxian — because the rumor urges us to believe so, because in commoners’ eyes Jiang Cheng did hate Wei Wuxian for “killing” Yanli and “destroying” the Jiang clan. But in the 33d episode, when we are looking at that scene from Wuxian’s POV Jiang Cheng looks so heart-broken and sad, losing both of his siblings in a fucking row. They literally filmed the scene with Jiang Cheng’s expression twice just to show that difference.

And also on the street, walking away after giving the storyteller in the inn a gold piece? ;)

My reaction to the intro and outro is always exactlyy the same. When I recommend this show to someone, I am so adamant they skip those. Though, to be honest, same as with those first two episodes, I think no one would understand nor remember the intro and outro spoilers if they only watched them once at the beginning, so I allow that 😂

I did the same with myself and the person I recommended it to! The intro and the outro are allowed only for the first episode!

I'm so glad you uploaded this today!!! So many things!!! Personally I remembered really vividly that Yanli was going to die and it was somehow supposed to be Wuxian's fault, but I know several other people who also completely forgot when they were watching the flashback. Seeing Jin Ling's first appearance when you already know who he is and who his parents are is so wildly different... I mean same with Sizhui! Same with everyone! Aaaa!

As for the person scampering away on the clifftop after making the dancing statue illusion, that was Nie Huaisang! It actually makes complete sense that he did the illusion, bc he's the only one other than Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji who saw the real thing in action. He presumably stashed Wen Ning close by so that he would be called out by Wei Wuxian in response to the illusion, bc Huaisang wanted to draw wwx into the mystery and expose that the Jin Clan lied about killing Wen Ning. You also see Huaisang twice in the first episode! First as this mysterious silhouette, ominously tapping his fan against his palm, which I *love.* And then at the end, he pays off the innkeeper storyteller person, flicks open his fan, and walks away. He was paying the storyteller to talk about the Yiling Patriarch for three days straight bc he was specifically trying to engineer Mo Xuanyu into sacrificing himself to bring wwx back.

I've been crying for hours and didn't even think about how much your reaction to the first 2 episodes would affect me!! Oh, Brittany!! I am now officially starting my next watch of the whole show because of you!! This was painful and gorgeous!! Thank you so much!!

Ah, that's the thing about a first watch, there are so many things that you have no way of knowing whether they are meaningful or significant or not. I was someone who'd read the novel and watched the donghua and was waiting with some trepidation about the drama. So I spent the first couple of episodes being happy and excited about how it was so much better than I was dreading and how close to the novel they'd really managed to make it. And how wonderful the casting was!
