Rogue is actually strong as hell. She not only can take powers, she can fly, and has super strength like the hulk. These movies just nerfed her.

She got those powers from holding onto Carol Danvers for too long. It put Carol into a coma for years and Rogue got super strength and the ability to fly permanently. This Rogue was, obviously, before she encountered Carol.
