Okay - So, this week I’ve been doing all the After Effects work and at this point, I’ve got all of it done except for the Scene F stuff, which I needed the snow FX in order to continue with. Towards the end of this week, I was really griping because I had not heard from my snow guy since mid-August and I desperately needed the snow files to continue working. The entirety of the episode is now rendered out completely, except for Scene F.

Then, just a couple hours ago, I received the Snow FX. Finally. I have been running some test renders with it, and it looks pretty much done, save for the ending bits, which I need to send back for adjustments. But wow, the snow is huge, file-wise. The simulation files alone are about 70 GB and my computer has been constantly crashing while trying to render stuff out. This is going to be more difficult to deal with than I’d thought, and I’m likely going to need to utilize the render farm quite a bit. But the fact that I have snow at all now is great. I can final start rendering out the completed parts of F.

Also, I’ve received the latest draft of the sound mix and it’s more or less done. I’ve now watched the episode so, so many times and, save for the snow, everything is in order. I’m holding off on calling the current sound mix a final draft until the visuals are 100% and it all matches up, but, yeah, the sound is virtually complete.

My focus now is on completing F, the very final scene, and bringing it all together. My progress in the coming week will determine whether or not I’ll be able to finish this month. But, wow, this snow is just completely wrecking my computer. Thus far, it doesn’t seem like the snow conflicts with the lights or anything, but I need to get a full test render done to be sure. One thing is for sure - I’m not doing anything with snow again for a very long time.
