BTS often use the Sea to represent prosperity and the desert to represent hardship. They released this song as a hidden track--it's not even on Spotify--because they felt like only ARMY would understand. It's explaining how, even though it appears they've arrived at the sea, they don't trust it. Is it really the sea? Or is this just a mirage in an endless desert? It's the fear of sinking into the sand even as they float in an ocean. It's such powerful imagery and they return to it often. Even in their latest title Yet to Come, they end the song with the sounds of the sea in the middle of the desert. Sea is a song that ARMY holds so dear because it was such a vulnerable expression of their mindset as they entered the biggest and toughest and scariest time in their careers so far. Had they really made it or was it all going to disappear like an illusion?

Also, while some people zero in on j-hope quickly, I think a lot of people are like you and find that he sneaks up on them. I really think that's because of his versatility. With Yoongi and RM, you hear them in three tracks and you have a good sense of what they do and what they bring to the table as rappers. Especially within BTS' discography. They have very specific styles and tones and they're recognizable so you come to know them and remember them quickly and you can tell they're objectively talented rappers. They also have more accessible styles--if you're familiar with western rap, you can hear a lot of that in their choices. RM especially feels like he could be a western rapper. Then you have j-hope, who never comes onto a track the same way twice. You hear him in Run BTS, Rain, Second Grade, Louder Than Bombs, Make It Right and you think you've heard 5 different rappers and three vocalists, too. So it's hard to pin him down and identify what he's doing. But as you are exposed to more of their discography and their solo projects and you start to see a bigger sample of work, a picture of a really interesting, versatile rapper/singer emerges. I was two years in when I suddenly realized that my favorite verse in like 80% of BTS songs were Hobi's verses. haha. The versatility and uniqueness cuts against him at first but, for fans who dig in, it always comes around. He's very impressive and super interesting. And the fact that his flow and melody-making is so god tier helps too. haha

you should definitely start listening to more background vocals bc i’m surprised this is your first time that jungkook has stood out to you in a song… especially with older albums he was all over the background vocals!! you should definitely get a chance to appreciate all aspects of their music and not just the things that are on obvious. or maybe it’s just those small things in the songs that really resonate with me 🤷🏾‍♀️
