i think people were more upset about them taking a break, like it was some sort of "indefinite hiatus", rather than taking a break for going to serve in the military and releasing solo projects. Which, BTS made it very obvious that they were not breaking up, and they've been talking about 2025 comeback ever since, but the media just run with the story of "bts breaking apart" etc. If they just announced solo projects, I don't think anyone would be upset because we're already had two mixtapes from rm and agust d, and one from j-hope, so it would be expected for other members to release a solo project. But for me, because of the military stuff, it felt like people were afraid that they would just go solo and not come back as a group after the military.

Love that you’re seeing this! Anyone who calls him emotionless has no idea what they’re talking about. It was really nice seeing him with his american friends like Halsey (who worked together with bts once and with suga twice, she even performed as his concert guest recently!), Chris Martin (who wasn’t in the docu) and Anderson paak (who fun fact: is part korean and has a korean wife, which is why he was talking a little bit in korean). And the first guy with the trampoline and long hair is steve aoki, he worked with bts a few times starting back in 2017, and has been a really good friend to them (like yoongi said, it’s also the solidarity of being a fellow asian artist in the American music industry). Yes, the scene with jimin was during filming of in the soop 1, we saw him working back then but obviously heard no music, so it was cool to see what he was actually working on back then.

Yes, there were also a lot of one direction comparisons being made by media (and gen public), since 1D used the word hiatus as a euphemism for breakup, so people were mocking army who believed BTS’ words by saying “you’re so naive, you don’t really think they’re getting back together?” For a month after that Festa announcement, all headlines were talking about “the bts breakup”, saying “former member of bts” etc. It was rough.
