Is it 3 am for me? Yes. Am i about watch this reaction anyway? ABSOLUTELY 😂💖

There was actually a couple of teams that didn't have the same budget as others, so the stages were unfair most of the time. I believe the budget was supposed to be 5 million won but some groups had over that amount. I also didn't like the percentage the fan voting had there was some groups who definitely got votes for just being popular probably.

5 am for me, literally watching this while at work 🤣😹

2024-01-22 15:57:03 I mean the good thing about this show is no one actually leaves. Like no one gets eliminated. The problem is there are groups that are so much more popular internationally and others that are more popular in Korea. But because fans of groups will only vote and most likely only watch their groups they’ll only vote for that group. That’s why I kind of would’ve liked it more if it was the teams voting anonymously rather than the fans since they just don’t do it right at all.

2024-01-22 15:57:03 I just wanted to say as well that sf9 and the Boyz are definitely the least popular but I actually think sf9 is the least popular group out of the two. Like whenever people get into kpop they’d go for the Boyz before ever even hearing about sf9 and that’s because they just aren’t as popular or known. I’m happy both of those groups ended up being on this show because it will have given them more chance to gain more fans and love. But most of the time it just isn’t fair. I do think because ateez is so new technically still too that they are also at a disadvantage. A lot of people who like stray kids find ateez and vice versa so I bet people have to choose between them to see who they’ll end up voting for and since stray kids was already so dominating they just chose them most likely.

It really took until my 3rd watch through (right now with you) to notice how differently the teams are treated. Like look at their dressing rooms. Ateez literally have cheap chairs and NOTHING ELSE. like their room is bare bones conpared to everyone else.

You should just skip the preview at the beginning hahaha because it's too much spoiler, it takes away the surprise, just like at the end. If I'm not mistaken, the spoilers at the beginning last only 1 minute or so. Regarding popularity, it is very different, at that time, for example, ateez and skz had much more foreign fanbases than Koreans and in the case of tbz the other way around, they had a larger Korean fanbase... the less fanbases I suppose that they were SF9 is a little late maybe haha but I recommend that you first listen to the original song, so you can see the arrangements and changes made by each group are appreciated much more.. i think you hear backdoor 23423 times before you reacted hahaha

Viviena

So agree with the comment about checking the original song before! When I watched Kingdom for the first time I haven't heard Inception yet so I didn't really appreciate the work IKON put in to rearange it. It would REALLY enhance the experience for the next episode as all of those songs are very good on their own and VERY different from how the groups reinterpreted them!

Soph

With the fanvotes it's important to remember that in order to vote you were forced to vote for 3 teams, with no ranking between them. Like, even with a bigger fanbase you HAD to vote for 2 other teams just as much as your fave or your vote wouldn't go through

SF9’s Easy Love remains one of my favorite songs to this day. I can always tell when a song is an SF9 song because they have this unique synth flavor to them. Anyway, all that to say that they’re also a good group to stan.

Susy

The show was for exposition, yes Stray Kids won because they have the largest fandom, but that does not take away that their performances were amazing. At that time, Stays did a wonderful job creating strategies to make them the winners, cuz you couldn’t vote only for 1 team; the first 2 rounds you needed to vote for 3 teams, 3rd round was 2 teams and the final only 1(can't remember). Obviously Skz was the priority, but after them we vote accordingly to our fan bases strategies. There was a lot of fucked up things because MNET shows are always nasty and unfair, but that does not take away the organization of the whole fandom + we were in COVID times, there was a lot of time to get everyone and be focused. It kinda rubs me in the wrong way seeing people commenting that it was unfair, just because other fandoms decided to engage more in fanwars than in making strategies. Stay wanted to give them this opportunity because they deserved it as much as the other teams, cuz JYPE sucks in giving SKZ descents promotions and we successfully did it. At the end of the day, It was a game, there will be always a winner and a looser. It was a freaking traumatic and sleep-depriving experience for everyone, but we kept the awesome interactions, amazing performances and we met new groups we now stan and love because of the show.

I’m loving these stages and watching this again with your commentary is giving me a whole new appreciation for some of them that I didn’t have upon my first watch. I still have my own critiques, but I won’t go into those to keep this comment less rambly. From this episode, my favorite still is The Boyz, and I would encourage you to listen to the original song “O Sole Mio” by SF9, because it’s also my favorite of theirs. I think this program was a great opportunity for the younger and lesser known groups to get their names out there, and I think some of the groups agreed to go on the show just for that reason. Mnet actually had a lot of trouble finding groups to participate in Kingdom. They had the whole Road to Kingdom competition that was supposed to give 2 lesser known groups the chance to compete, but they only let The Boyz through (which I’m still upset about, ONF and Pentagon are both amazing and also deserved the chance to compete). But then they end up having to basically beg for other groups to join the show, I think because it was in the middle of Covid, but also because Mnet has that bad reputation of favoritism and editing out of context. I heard that SF9 and Ikon didn’t really want to be on the show, so needed convincing. Stray Kids did want it (Mnet films a lot of their reality shows already, Finding Stray Kids, which you should totally watch too), and I think so did BtoB (someone can correct me if I’m wrong). But by excluding the 2nd place winner of Road to Kingdom, they made it harder on themselves to fill the remaining spots.

Betty Eder

you do remember that btob already ranked top 3 in the first introduction round though, right?

Tatiana

I think sf9 did so good this round. I really liked their performance. At first I didn’t know how I felt about ikon but they really made the performance on how it suited them best and it was good. They made it fun for them which is always a good thing. Bobby is so funny and encouraging. I can’t wait for the others

Tatiana

I think that’s what so many ppl focused on. Since it’s a competition and you could only vote for one you stayed with your group you were in a fandom with to win. I don’t think ppl should be saying it’s unfair when it’s a fandom based ranking because some fandoms had a hire fan base than others. But this show brought exposure to all groups involved. I think it was hard for ppl who come in staning one group and ended up liking another didn’t want to not vote for the group they came there for.
