Edit: I watched more and you clearly appreciate the depth overall, you just missed the clever artistry in Hope World (the song) which makes sense if you never read 20,000 Leagues so I'll just leave the comment as a general PSA. haha. I really enjoyed your reaction!!! I'm binge watching your reactions late but I want to point out that there is serious depth in this album. You said during Hope World that it's just a dance-y vibe-y thing and that's just really not all there is to it. There's a whole video explaining the narrative and themes of the album (and that song specifically) but it's based on Jules Vernes' novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea which tells the story of a captain on this marvel of an invention (a submarine) taking his passengers to a land of wonder. j-hope describes himself as Captain Nemo of the Arronax and Hope World as both the vessel and the land of wonder. It's both the marvelous, awe-inspiring invention and the ultimate magical destination, and he's our guide through it. You mentioned that you connect more with serious stuff and I feel like that's a common refrain that people tend to use to marginalize Hobi's work. Even when JITB came out people compared it to Hope World, calling it "deeper" and more "emotional." I think that's common in art generally--if it's brighter, if it's themes are more positive, it's seen as less intellectual and artistic. But j-hope's writing is incredibly intelligent and he deeply explores themes that are so powerful and relevant to the human experience. I mean, hope, love, joy, self-discovery, growth--they're very meaningful, emotional parts of the human experience too. I think it's refreshing to see an artist explore those. And he does talk about his struggles too but he focuses on the outlook. Anyway, of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and taste. If you enjoy the more explicitly darker themes and sounds, that's fair enough. But don't fall into the trap of think brighter sounds mean less intelligence, artistry, or depth because those are all strengths of j-hope's music and lyricism. It's true, a lot of the songs on Hope World are a vibe...but they are deep, sincere, meaningful pieces of work too.

Thank you! Yes! I feel like Hobi's poetry is so deep and his charisma is so strong, that people miss the meaning. He also often has songs with bright messages that go hard (More) and songs with deeper or darker messages that sound vibey and bright (Daydream) much like BTS as a whole. Hobi is my forever bias and I low key cringe that his charisma is so powerful that people overlook his artistry. He has a combination of Namjoon's subtle poetry and Yoongi's direct savagery and emotional honesty. His lyrics are packed with clever wordplay, literature and art references.
