So this is kind of like 'Thanks for everything you did but with all that happened and who was the aggressor there isnt currently any visible role for you in the rebuild of insomnia and Lucis post WoR. So he's gifted the highest honours - a beautiful 

luxury apartment to live in - more money than he's ever had in his life but it almost feels like hush money

And The boys are so set to create this new world post darkness - maybe they feel like the time will come later once they've set up the new institution whatever that might be

Ignis tends to turn apologetic looks Promptos way when ever he sees him but he and Gladio have always been duty bound and it's liek with Noctis' return that part of them has resurged

Noctis probably not out of any unkindness but he's spent 10 years by himslef in total solitude

So he just doesnt feel absense like he used to - seeing Prompto once every few months still feels like a LOT

There's a lot of 'We just need a bit more time Prompto - the anger towards Niffs will eventually go away - theyre purposefully trying ot quash any rebelling and hate against people but to have someone so front and center wouldnt currently be met with applause

Prom is every the people pleaser so he just goes along with whatever they say 

He tried at the beginning to be like 'Hey I can do stuff in teh background - just give me tasks and I'll get them done!' but the boys are like 'Prom, take this time - we will swamp you with work later - go explore, travel do any of the things that you 

will be too busy for later when that place opens up

Promto's like 'Well...I dont honestly have a whole lot to do by myself without my friends you know??' You can imagine how badly it would hurt when they say 'Youre a sociable guy Prompto - you could easily make friends' He's thinking - I dont WANT new 

friends - I want my old friends to ~want me~'

At this point he still has his leg, but maybe he's been noticing pangs and they progressively get worse

To the point where he has to do somethign about it - Like Ignis finds him a specialist in Altissia which for Ignis and Gladio is kind of like a blessing because they just needed Prom tp stop asking because its not that they dont want him they just CANT 

right now. Like maybe theyre a little frustrated because please Prompto you're making this harder on everyone. 

So he's like 'Fine, yeah okay I'll go and get this fixed...see you guys late??'

And honestly they probably expected it to be a relatively quick fix

But are secretly relieved when Prom tells them it's going to take longer than expected - they even say that they'll try and visit him but just never get the time themselves

He inevitably is told theres scourge in his leg and it's got to go or it will consume him

Its the very early stages and it's only in his lower leg but the longer the wait the more the risk of it being irreparable

So Prom's like 'yeah- okay yeah, just do what you need to'

He's just swept away in the torrent and he honestly probably doesnt have time to think of the boys but once he's gotten his prosthetic and is in rehab he starts to feel their absence again and by this time with the pain and medicine he's also probably

starting to feel some intense resentment. Thats also because Aranea dropped in to see him - she heard for Noctis where Prompto was and was all 'Sur...WTF'

And then shes enraged because they've gone to such lenghts to accommodate Ignis' disability so he can work 

Maybe its even the fact that Noctis is currently so efficient in his detached state that they also feared that Prom being around would bring back the terrible two

And they genuinely want to get everything set up as fast as possible so that they CAN be together

Oh man imagine if stuff developed between the three while Prompto was away - like theres a place for him but he probably feels so left out that when they'll like 'Join us??? 8D'

He is like 'Umm...no thank you...' 

'Wh-what???'

Because they DO love and want Prom but he feels like theyre worlds apart now, hes not even all there anymore

Also because they werent checking in on him they dont know about his whole situation and then it gets too a point where - how do you even bring it up anymore - its beyond being awkward

Imagine if - Noctis in his time in the crystal HAD actually learned how to deal with the scourge so this whole loss was avoidable. Which probably leads to some unintentional victim blaming

And like him having a bit of a limp wouldnt even register because they knew he was going ot get something done with his leg

so yes - the boy is sad and lonely and when the time comes that there's space for him - in their relationship, in their workplace - they've missed their window because Prompto doesnt even want it anymore

Maybe he DOES make some more friends and now that the boys have completed what they were trying to do they have time for Prom again which means time to be jealous and needy and total hypocrites but they are thankfully AWARE that they are all of the above

Aranea's probably flayed them anyway...verbally and physically.

Maybe she's the one that introduced him to his new group - she's made a space for him in whatever barely legal thing shes filling her time with

So it goes from him always being available to him being the one that they can barely get a hold of and he's starting to recover a bit of his happiness

Im imagining a scene somethign liek this where he's in his fancy pants apartment, post shower and Gladio lets himself in for a talk

Maybe Ignis is with him 'Hey Pro-WHAT THE HELL?!?!'

'Gladiolus??? Whats wrong - is Prompto okay?'

'HIS LEG IS GONE'

'WHAT?!?!'

'Why do you have a key to my place??'

'Wh- we have keys to eachother places to check u-'

'I don't have keys to ANYONES place'

'Prompto - this isnt the time for that'

'You're totally right, it isn't - okay byyyeee, thanks for dropping in - leave the keys by the door!'

And when theyre stubborn he's like 'yeah okay fine - I'll go then. You can let yourself out' and he goes to get dressed. He has plans anyway with the gang so he genuinely doesnt have time right now

You can imagine later when they tell Noct all shocked he's like 'What...but??? I could have helped?????'

And of course they will apologise properly to Prompto - he will EVENTUALLY accept to join them in the relationship even though he's insecure as hell about it for a long time

But much to their chagrin - the new buddies are also sticking around - maybe Prom even turns down the role that they'd created for him to work instead with the new friends

Which probably takes him out of Insomnia a lot so they boys who now have a LOT more freetime are available to feel his absence

There might also be some added drama where one of the new buddies is determined to get in there with Prom before he forgives the others

Not in abad way - just he has is bad for Prom and he sees he has a very small window to get Prom to fall for him
