This idea was bugging me all day. 

Prompto pinching those areas that he was bothered by, where the weight had left stretchmarks, maybe loose skin. He does it almost to soothe himself after time.

One evening he thought he was alone in the changing rooms after traiing but Ignis stuck his head in to hurry him along a bit - on their way to collect Noctis from some royal activity.

Naturally their first instinct is to think he's being bullied but rather than being bullied by other people he's being bullied by his own mind.

He's got friends now so they won't let it continue. 

Prompto is probably mortified at being caught - especially by Gladio more than by Ignis because he fears looking weak(er) in Gladio's eyes. He probably feels like Ignis sees him so much more than Gladio so he has a better grasp on Prompto as a person whereas Gladio doesnt see him as often so this just makes him look worse in Gladio's view.

No need to worry though. Gladio will be coached by Ignis to avoid blurting the wrong thing. He does want to help but he's not the most eloquent and this is a situation that requires some tact.
