Guy Fawkes was to be 'hung drawn and quartered', that is to say, after being dragged by the horse and hung, he was to be cut down before quite dead, disembowelled while alive, and cut into four pieces. Also he was tortured definitely, you can still see proof of his broken hands in the tower of london by seeing his signed confession letter.

I bet you what happened is the one guy had a heart attack right as his friend was chewing a big piece of meat and the surprise caused him to swallow the piece whole instead of chewing it into little swallowable pieces

Napoleon's 'Hundred Days' story may have had an even more extreme plot twist. According to Robert Greene, Napoleon's escape had secretly been orchestrated by his two enemies, Talleyrand and Fouche'. Although Wikipedia seems to have nothing on this, IIRC Greene claimed that the two of them agreed to send the ships surrounding the island away so that Napoleon could escape and then be quickly recaptured or defeated, permanently removing him from the world stage. But since Wikipedia has no mention of this, I wonder if this twist-within-a-twist was real after all :)
