Yeah see..I don’t mind them breaking up but they way they did it I felt was so dumb, and unrealistic. I know it’s a sitcom but I can only suspend my disbelief so much. Plus it really wasn’t funny. I wish they had a genuine break up, they are so similar personality wise so I understand why at this time maybe it was the right choice but the execution was bleh..

The break up was definitely super rushed and made no sense.. and Barney going back to his old ways also kills some of his character development. I agree that serious moments need to be taken more seriously, not everything has to be a joke. And the show gets better with that later on imo, but yeah this episode was a mess. Season 5 is still amazing tho, its just that episode that pisses me off lol.

It might have been rushed but their realtionsship was not healthy, fighting 24/7, Barney checking out other women. But it was rushed, their break up could have been 2 episodes

I really don't like that breakup-episode. And it just doesn't make sense to me, that they had Robin and Barney being a couple that fights all the time. The reason I (and many others) ship Barney and Robin is how alike they are. And how great their friendship was. The scenes of just them before they started dating were so good! And their chemistry was really good, so it made sense to have them fall in love with each other. Ted and Robin breaking up made sense and was inevitable, because they wanted different things in life... But this just seems so forced

The playbook is legendary!

And seriously; GREAT reaction! I 100% reacted the same way when I first watched it. But don't worry, it will still continue to be a good show overall but with some bumps along the way...

Oh man, I can totally feel your frustration... The first episode is one of the worst of the show... Just so badly written (like you said) and so rushed. It really didn't make sense, and if they had wanted to make it good, they should have buit it up. One thing I also don't like about it is how their friends are so bent on breaking them up, compared to season 4 finale, they were more or less all rooting for them to get together, and that was only less than 10 episodes ago.... The "friends getting back together" would have been genuinely cute if the break up had made sense but it's just a sweet scene at the end of a bad episode... The jokes are still funny tough, especially the one around the Stormtrooper XD One thing we must remember though, is that everything is told from Ted's point of view (mostly) and as we've already seen a couple times, he's not a very reliable narrator. I think it's important to keep that in mind. Did you catch that Alan Thick mentioned anoter video from Robin's past ? That's why Barney rushed out, in search of it ;) (now that's an episode I'm looking forward to your reaction !!!) Second episode had good moment, definitely better than the first one. We finally get introduced to the Playbook (it's still possible to buy the playbook by the way, I saw it the other day in a bookstore XD). Anyway, it's quite fun to see all the little scenarios and how elaborate they all are, the dude created fake websites to get laid, that's commitment XD And like you said, Barney is always playing and planning ahead, it's both a good and a very bad side of his personality, depending on why uses his talents for. But I agree with your frustration by the end of the episode, it totally put a halt to Barney's character developpement and now he's reversed to his old self. Although, the scene when Barney returns to the bar in his suit at the end of the previous episode, is quite iconic and awesome (even if I hated the rest of the episode). And the fact they're hinting at a new relationship for Robin... Yeah, didn't like that either.... Anyway, I feel your frustration with these two episodes, but don't worry, the show is still great and I'm sure you'll find enjoyment in it :) Until next week :)
