Man this episode is a 10/10. The character dynamics changing, the intense conversations, the acting. When I first watched the show I hated Mordred. But then again I was young. I really really feel for him now. Whilst Kara was wrong in terms of the law of Camelot, in her eyes she’s fighting for freedom. Given Uther’s huge legacy and Arthur still banning magic I do get it. If she pretended to repent she would have lost her integrity. I do love how Arthur specified that his reasoning was the murders and not her magic. I also don’t get how Arthur really thought Mordred would forgive him or stand by. Of course he was going to leave haha. And omg the Emrys/Merlin reveal was perfect. The hype is real.

I have been waiting for your reaction to that Emrys reveal scene ever since you started the season !!!! And yep, the hype of that scene is just so good! The episode as a whole works quite well and it's definitely one of the best of the season and of the show. I do feel it's a tad rushed for the Mordred arc though. I really wish they had built it up throughout the season. Mordred could have mentioned Kara and his affections for her earlier on, maybe during a casual talk with the knights. They could have incorporated flashbacks with them. How I wish we had seen Asa Butterfield reprise his role as Mordred in a flashback with a younger Kara. Don't get me wrong, Alexander's acting totally sold me on Mordred's feelings for Kara and why he was chosing her over Camelot, but the problem is that without his acting, I wouldn't have been convinced. Once again, we get some poor writing saved by the stellar talent of the actor. And as much as I feel really sad and sorry for Mordred, I just can't feel any sympathy for Kara by the end of the episode. At the beginning, I was torn, and willing to give her a chance but as the episode progressed and we saw how ruthless and extremist she was, I just couldn't feel sad about her fate.... And yeah, I do know that she's set in her beliefs and for her she's doing what is right, and I don't fault her for that. What bothers me is how she doesn't even listen when Mordred tries to tell her why he chose to serve Arthur, wy he considers him a friend. Kara doesn't know Arthur the way he knows him. And some part of me just can't shake the feeling that she manipulated Mordred. Even he was shocked when she didn't hesitate killing a Camelot soldier while they were escaping... And he did not obey her when she ordered him to kill his friends. The big problem, is that in the end Mordred did not see that Arthur gave Kara another chance. He had no idea that's why she was brought to the king. To him, she only was led to her execution and that was the last straw for Mordred.... He snapped. I love how the scene at the end, when he blows the gate away, parallels the one in the first episode we saw Mordred. Again, one of his loved ones is about to be executed and he loses control of his magic. In 1x08, he breaks the mirror in Morgana's chamber after his guardian is killed, and in this episode, he blows the gate when he feels Kara being hung. Remember the title of the episode we first saw Mordred : The beginning of the end and this episode is called The drawing of the dark. It's coming full circle now and that's why I love re-watching the show, there's so much foreshadowing in season 1, it's brillantly done! This episode is also a really good character piece for Arthur. And I have to say that it's my favortie thing about the episode. I just love how we see him at the same time ruthless in upholding the law after they catch Kara, but also, he's not completely closed of and he listens to Mordred, he listens to Merlin. This is such a far cry from the Arthur in earlier seasons, he has changed and grown so much and I can't help feeling the same pride Merlin does when Arthur is willing to give Kara a chance at redemption. I also love how by the end of the episode, Arthur knows he's made a mistake and that he's aware of it and he tells Merlin so. This comes back to the start of the season when we learnt that Arthur's bane was himself. This episode definitely proved that.... The knights VS Mordred is really sad.... They considered him as their little brother and when Mordred appeals to Gwaine and Leon, it's just so sad.... And the way Leon looks at him when he takes Kara.... Merlin VS Mordred in this entire episode is also one of the great things about it. The tension has been building up ever since Merlin set eyes on Mordred in the first episode of the season. Colin and Alexander are so good in their scenes together the entire season but this episode is definitely on another level. I love Merlin, he's my absolute favorite character, but I have to say that after the way he's been treating Mordred the entire season, it does feel a bit satisfying that Mordred gets to be his undoing in the end. When he tells Morgana, you can feel Mordred has finally reached the point of no return when it comes to Merlin. And yeah, in the end it is Merlin's fault, not directly in this episode, it's more Arthur's, but throughout the season, Merlin has given Mordred no reason to be loyal to him, and after he snapped, Mordred just knew how to get back at Merlin in the best possible way. Merlin's scenes with Arthur in this episode are just so good too. From the very domestic moments with them hunting together to the serious talk about giving Kara a chance at redemption. I know I keep repeating myself, but these two are what makes the show so good. I also love the liitle moment we get when Arthur is giving Kara another chance and he just shares that look with Merlin, and Merlin looks so proud of him for having listened to him. Even at the end, when Arthur tells Merlin he fears he made a mistake trusting Mordred, Merlin tells him that his good heart should not be blamed. Okay, now on the less serious notes. There are two popular memes about this episode that I'd like to share (not links but I'll describe them). The first one is from the scene when Mordred asks Merlin if he wouldn't do the same to save the woman he loves. And then we get Merlin with subtitles "gay silence" because yep, he would do absolutely anything it takes to protect the one he loves but that ain't a woman ;) *inserts flashback of all the times he saves Arthur's live* :P The second meme is from the Emrys reveal scene with Morgana. After she learns the truth, she looks right at the camera like in the Office XD or another one after the screen goes black, we hear her say "Well duh!!!". Oh wow, we're at the end now.... the final countdown to the end... Thank you for considering reacting to the Real Merlin and Arthur, I'll definitely sahre the links with you. There is so much behind the scenes stuff that is worth reacting to but I guess you won't really get to it all. You should definitely react to the cast vieao diearies from season one (they're babies and it's just so adorable to see how cute they were back then), especially the Colin and Bradley ones. The outtakes are definitely a must too, some bits for the Secrets and Magic from season 2 (especially Colin and Bradley "You're the voice"). The deleted scenes (but not all are on youtube, I could edit the main interesting ones and share the video with you if you're interested). I also recommand the crack videos, there are so many but they're just too good XD I made 3 myself ;) There are also really good edits as tribute to the show in general, to the relationships as well. I actually put together a "post Merlin" playlist together and I'll definitely share the link with you in the comment to the last episode reaction. Well, I'm both excited and sad to see you react to the last act of the show. Until next week then :)
