Imagine replacing the dragon's voice at the end of the intro and have Arthur scream Merlin (just like he does in this episode), it would be the funniest thing XD This episode is really good and I like the focus on Elyan, Tomiwa is a great actor and he deserved more screentime. In the audio commentary, the director said that they used horror movie techniques for the scenes with the spirit and it really works, especially the jumpscares and the eerie atmosphere. When Elyan's body is all covered in running water, it reminded me of the Doctor Who episode The waters of mars (which is one of the creepiest episode of the show) so yeah, this episode, definitely scary. The twist with Arthur being at fault instead of Uther was so well done. Even Merlin looked shocked when Arthur told him. Bradley's acting is once again so good this episode, and it takes a second watch to really understand how haunted and troubled he is the entire episode after seeing the shrine of the old druid camp. Everyone thinks it's because he's thinking about Gwen (and maybe part of it is) but the way he was so troubled the entire episode also shows he's so different than Uther. Uther did not show any regret about the purge and the terrible acts he commited, but here we see Arthur showing true remorse and it just proves how different he is. Arthur making peace with the druid is a huge step in the right direction. I love the knights in this episode as well, from their childish behaviour at the beginning to their support of Elyan throughout the episode. I also love that they were covering for Elyan so that Arthur wouldn't doubt his loyalties. The banter between Arthur and Merlinis also really fun this episode. Merlin's joke about slepping on the table never fails to make me laugh because he's just so proud of his joke he can't help himself laughing XD Also the knight's confused face when Merlin told them Arthur has stew in his hair because he was reading XD Poor Merlin getting beat up after that... Also, "what are you doing creeping out in the woods?" "following you. What are you creeping out in the woods?" XD Just these two, they have everyhting : the chemistry, the emotional moments, the banter, the humour, they're just the best when together :D I also love Gaius this episode, and of course I still hate Aggravaine.... At least Arthur is not blindly listening to him this episode and he actually doesn't discredit Merlin for telling him Elyan is possessed. The scene when Arthur is atoning is just so moving, when Arthur says "I froze", I can't help imagining him as a young knight, barely 14-15 years old witnessing all the massacre and not being able to do anything about it.... Once again, Bradley shines with his acting during this scene. The last scene, when Merlin teases Arthur, these two are just too much sometimes. And that sound Merlin is making at the end, well, doesn't sound like Arthur's hugging him ;P (I like that you said "a kiss maybe" ) They just make it too easy XD Oh next episode, we get a new character :) I can't wait to see what you think of her. Gwen is back too and yep, her outfit is beautiful ! Once again great reaction and can't wait for the next one :) Have a good end of the weekend !!
