Merlin and Arthur are dragon daddies now :D This episode inspired all the fanartists in the fandom to draw them as dragon daddies and it's just so adorable, here's one of my favorite chibi animation : https://images.app.goo.gl/T4gxqta1ha7fcRfB8 There are so many more but they're spoilery so I won't share them just yet but since you love Merthur I thought you'd like seing this one :D I love how the previous episode was a character piece for Arthur and this one is for Merlin. The only thing I'm not happy about is that they deleted two good scenes in which Merlin and Arthur talk about how they both lost their fathers, and Merlin confesses to Arthur that he wants to make his father proud. And later, the second deleted scene, which is at the end of the episode, Arthur notices that Merlin looks happy and he tells him that he made his father proud. I don't understand why these two scenes were deleted, they're quite important and they also imply that at some point in the year we did not see, Merlin must have told Arthur about losing his father. So yeah, that's my one negative thing about the episode. Also, the way Arthur looks and smiles at Merlin in these two scenes <3 maybe they deleted them because of Arthur's heart eyes. Anyway, the episode is really good and as I said I love that it's a Merlin character piece. Merlin rarely talks about being a dragonlord ever since he got his powers, we see him call on the dragon but that's basically it. So it was interesting to see him want to fulfil his duties as a dragonlord. Although, I don't really like that Kilgharrah is a bit manipulative while telling Merlin that it's what his dad would have wanted, I still like the dynamic between Merlin and Kilgharrah in this episode and the last scene is really moving. Colin and John Hurt did a wonderful job with it. When Merlin says to Borden "Because I'm the personal manservant to the king" I hear "I'm the king's lover" :P I just, I don't know why, it's just the way he says it (and in a fanmade gif Merlin says "It's because I'm fucking the king" so I'm definitely not the only who interpreted it that way XD). Even you said that Arthur is waking up to his lover stealing his keys :D Ah the woodworm scenes XD, such jem ! Also, looking for woodworms in the morning, quite the innuendo, well done Merlin writers XD and to top it of, Merlin lands in Arthur's bed on top of him in the second scene. Like I said in my previous comment, subtext has become text, also, to quote a scene from supernatural "you can't spell subtext without s.e.x. " XD and then of course, we have a scene in which Merlin literally undressed Arthur with his eyes after licking his lips, and then wrestling on the floor while Arthur is half naked. The ship sails itself :D Also, two of my favorite things about that scene, Merlin calling Arhur "your makesty" sounds like that's what he would call him in bed (he only uses Sire, or my lord, or insults otherwise when he adresses Arthur) and the second thing, is how completely unafected the old men from the council are by this, only Agravaine (who recently arrived) seems to be surprised by this XD Meaning, the other council members must be used to Merlin and Arthur's shenanigans XD Makes you wonder what else they saw these two doing XD The knights and Arthur teasing Merlin, poor guy, but I love how that means they all consider him as family, he's like a little brother to them and older siblings have to tease the youngest one, that's just how things work. Merlin's smile when he realized they saved him a plate, so precious ! And Arthur and Merlin acting like an old married couple while being with the knights and they just go with it :) I also love how impressed they are with Merlin's tracking skills and Arthur's just acting petty. The dynamic with all the knights, Merlin and Arthur is just such a joy to see and as you said it's great that we get this squad now. When you mentioned Lancelot not being there :'( I miss him so much.... RIP Lancelot... Another thing I love in this episode is how protective Arthur is of Merlin when Borden attacks them and then when he nearly gets impaled by a tree branch, Arthur just won't let go of him. The druids are really eerie and even creepy in this episode, that moment when Borden turns and they all stare at him and then how they appear from nowhere in the forrest while he's running. The scene with Merlin is also really good, they're really criptic just like Kilgharrah. I love how you keep wanting for Mordred to show up. I totally thought we would see him in this episode as well, especially since it was Iseldir who took Mordred in after Arthur saved him in season 1. But nope, no Mordred yet. When Merlin realises that the food has been poisoned, he immediately rushes to Arthur first <3 also, Merlin's pissed after that, Bordren definitely went too far and he's going to pay. I love the confrontation between Borden and Merlin, when Merlin says "I'm the last Dragonlord" chills !! Also, there's so much power in his voice ! The moment he sees the egg for the first time, his smile melts my heart. Colin's acting is just so good and you can't help but feel every emotions he's portraying as Merlin. The Indiana Jones moments were not just a coincidence, in the audio commentary, the director says that he definitely was inspired by the movies and he wanted it to show in the episode. Gaius annoyed me in this episode, at first he's so against finding the egg and in the end he's quite happy that Merlin retrieved it. I like that we still get this conflicting moments between Merlin and Gaius, and that Merlin makes decisions that Gaius doesn't aprove of. Don't get me wrong, I love the father/son relationship these two have, but sometimes Gaius is wrong and too set in his ways to see that Merlin is right to challenge him. The best exemple I have in mind is how Gaius treated Morgana in the past, because it was his decision to keep her in the dark about her powers that eventually led her to seek answers elsewhere... So yeah, I'm glad that Merlin stood his ground and went after the egg despite Gaius forbidding it. The last scene of the episode is such a nice parallel to the last scene of the previous episode, here it's Merlin who becomes more, he brings a new life into this world. I also love that the name of the dragon "the light of the sun" definitely was inspired by Arthur, because he is the light of the sun in Merlin's life or at least that's how Merlin sees him. Arthur represents the hope that one day tings will be different, also we had that scene last episode with that halo of the sun around Arthur while Merlin looked up at him. And then Kilgharrah mentions how a white dragon is a good omen for Merlin and Arthur and the land that they will build together. So yeah, first time I watched this episode, I was really emotional and happy with that scene, even though Arthur's not there, he's still so present in it. Arthur and Merlin are the heart of the show and it's scenes like these that remind us of that. We love humorous and slashy Merthur scenes, of course we doo, but for me it's the meaningful and serious moments between the two that are my favorite. Oh next episode is a good one too (yep I keep saying that XD) and it has a great guest start, she's one of my favorite secondary character and I can't wait for you to meet her :D Also, there's one particular Merlin/Arthur scene that just screams rom-com to me, there's no way you'll miss it :D Well, that was a great reaction, I'm really looking formward to the next one and also your reaction to the next preview :D One last thing, Colin looks so good this season, I just, he's always been quite handsome but it's in season 4 that he just became really handsome and hot ! This episode in particular, I just hae this moments when I'm thing "Damn, he looks so good !"
