First of all, you have just become my favorite Merlin reactor because you actually watched and reacted the 4x01 deleted scene :D So thank you for that. It is such a sweet scene and I hate that they cut it because Arthur gifting Merlin his mother's sigil is a big deal. Anyway, thank you for that, I actually got super excited when you said you'd watch it after the episode. I both love and hate this episode because it is so good but also because Lancelot dies.... Oh my, I remember watching this episode live for the first time and how Tumblr lost it's shit afterwards. Lancelot deserved better... I sometimes still wonder if Santiago Cabrera's schedule hadn't been so busy, would Lancelot have been a bigger character on the show? Anyway, RIP Sir Lancelot, the noblest and bravest of them all :'( (like you, when Kilgharrah said that abouth him, I immediately got worried...) Merlin and Lancelot are so good in this episode, their friendship is precious and I love how they tease each other. Also when Merlin says "not as quick as Arthur", I always hear "not as quick as my boyfriend" XD the way Colin says that line, I just can't interpret it any different :P Another thing I absolutely love in this episode, is how we see Arthur so worried about Merlin. It's a side of him that Merlin never gets to see because Arthur always tries to joke to cover his real feelings most of the time. Also, he was about to abandon the quest for Merlin which is HUGE. I loved when they brought back the wildeorens, throwback to episode 4 of season 2. I also love the contrast on how Arthur decribed them to Merlin "they're like giant... *paused when he saw how frightened Merlin looked* baby rats" and then with the knights it's just "they feast on human flesh" XD I just find this contrast both adorable and funny. Also the scene when we see all the knights hiding in the cave, I can't watch it without thinking of the outtakes and Bradley getting scolded for ruining the takes because he just can't keep a straight face XD. Merlin calling the dragon is badass, and each time it's just keeps getting cooler. Tom Hopper (Percival) did the dragon call at a convention but Colin is definitely better as a Dragonlord. Lancelot pulling a prank on Arthur is just so funny, but when you look at Arthur's face for that split second of believeing Merlin's actually gone, my heart breaks because he looks so sad and then "he's still alive" and OMG the smiles on both Arthur and Merlin's faces &lt;3 and then the little awkward moment when they're just facing each other, this would have been the perfect moment for a hug, but as you pointed it out, Gwaine and Merlin are a bromance so they have no problem hugging. Arthur and Merlin, well, it's more. Also the entire scene after with them talking (that would have been the perfect moment to include Arthur giving Merlin his mother's sigil btw). For me, these two are the heart of the show, and it's in scenes like these that you truly see why. Gwen standing up to Aggravaine is also one of my fave scenes in the episode, I always liked the idea of her becoming Queen (even if I don't ship her with Arthur lol) and this gives us a little glimpse of her potential as politician. Morgana's hatred for Gwen hurts... they were such close friends and I hate that Morgana just wants her dead now.Don't get me wrong, I actually quite like Morgana's arc and her wanting Uther, Arthur and even Merlin dead, makes sense. But not Gwen, I know she betrayed her last season but still... Morgana and Gwen's friendship deserved better... Just like Lancelot/Gwen, the way she cried at the end.... You can't convince me that she did not love him anymore. She may have moved on, but her feelings were not gone. Such heartbreak this episode... And of course the music is absolutely perfect in the funeral scene, such a beautiful and heartbreaking piece. I also feel so terribly sad for Merlin, who once again lost a friend who knew him fully, last time was Will back in season 1, and now Lancelot... Poor Merlin, I know he still has Gaius, but it's just not the same. There is actually another really good deleted scene with Lancelot and Merlin this time, when they were hiding in the hut. Sadly, I can't share the link because it's in a video that combines all deleted scenes from the season so it's full of spoilers. In the scene, we get Lancelot and Merlin talking about his magic. The scene starts with Merlin adding logs in the fire and Lancelot asks him why he doesn't just use magic, Merlin replies "habit". Then Merlin says that it's just too dangerous to use magic in Camelot so he had to learn to do it without, to which Lancelot sais that it must be hard. Merlin then says "I used to think that I was cursed" which is a thrwoback to the first episode. Then he explains to Lancelot that he knows now it's a gift, it's who he was meant to be "I don't just have magic, I am magic, it's who I am". Then Lancelot says he felt the same when he first had a sword in his hand, he knew he was meant to be a knight. Then Lancelot asks "Will you ever tell Arthur?" and Merlin replies "I want him to know, to see, just once" and Lancelot then asks "What do you think he'd do?" and Merlin says "There's no point thinking about it, it's never going to happen". The scene ends there. I just don't get why they cut it out, it's such an important scene for them both and by this point the viewer wants to know when Merlin will tell Arthur, and this scene is quite important in that aspect. Next week is a good one too, I'm really looking forward to your reaction to it, old Merlin is always fun XD. Colin definitely seemed to have a lot of fun with that side of his character, also,in between the takes, he would roam around and scare people from the cast and crew with his old man make up (without the wig XD). Also, the outtakes with old man Merlin are just hilarious XD
