A new timelapse of my painting process! This time instead of a GIF I'm testing out a 90 sec video format.

Pros of video format:

  • doesn't load until you click
  • doesn't loop over and over
  • can zoom-in on the photoshop canvas so there's less UI clutter
  • can add some fun music that fits the theme
  • smaller file size

Cons:

  • have to host through vimeo, can't embed clips directly
  • takes up an entire post, can't be added to an image gallery post except as downloadable attachment

I decided I really don't like GIF format for timelapses because the auto-loading and playing of a 50MB GIF is just too much, it seems to lag out the patreon feed - at least on my end - so I imagine some of you must be experiencing that too.

I didn't record the first part of this sketch, so the timelapse starts at the halfway point. It took about 4 hours total, so I spent 2 hours sketching the 5 bodies, and the next two shading and coloring. Normally the shading and coloring takes me 5x as long as the lines, but I'm trying to keep these daily sketches fast and messy to improve my speed. 50/50 split between the lines and shading seems like a good ratio to aim for.
