Astrid (and The Return of the Daily Sketch!) (Patreon)

The old guard from 2018 will recall a 6 month stretch when I was posting a new sketch every day:  Daily Sketch Archive . Because I was doing these pinups on top of my regular Patreon projects, I was spreading myself too thin and gave them up to allow myself time to tackle bigger projects like animations and comics.

What will be different this time? Two big things  – first I'm considering anything fair game for a daily sketch, it could be a panel from a comic I'm working on, a progress update on a bigger piece like adding a new character to a multi-character picture, but also original warmup sketches that don't have to necessarily go anywhere. The goal is to give myself some structure and momentum, so I don't get lost in perfectionism going down some of the deeper rabbit holes of my bigger projects.

Secondly – they won't all be in color like before, though some might be. Instead I'm trying for a consistent lightweight style that allows me to practice shading and lighting, with a dash of selective color like Astrid's blush and eyes here.

Sometimes the daily sketch will be put to use as a comic panel or cleaned up and colored for a full pinup, or sometimes not! They can't all be winners, and this will help give you more of a voice in what pieces are worth putting more time into. I'd just like to get back to posting something every day again, as I find that momentum helps me get more done overall.

This picture of Astrid came about because I'm putting together the next two votes for April, and they involve choosing between some characters I've never drawn before (like Astrid here from Size Check and Size Check 2).
