AHMT #270 - The Floramorphs of Alberon-6 (8K)

First things first: I can't always spend 13 hours on an AHMT pic, but some times you just gotta do it! There's a timelapse video attached that condenses 13 hours into a single minute!

Unbelievably epic thank you to We're All Mad Here for this help with this one - the writing below, the help defining and refining this concept and the series in general!

Enjoy!

This project can be best described by the man, the legend (also professional writer) We're All Mad Here:

Beasts of the Known Galaxy

A purely scientific log of the various life-forms encountered in the Known Galaxy

Foreword

This log is a record of my travels across the Known Galaxy alongside my stalwart companion Raven, who has served as my bodyguard and confidant.

It is my hope that other sober-minded scientists can make good use of my recordings.

The Floramorphs of Alberon-6

We arrived on Alberon-6 with minimal fuss, though Raven remains cross with me over the disposition of our supply of chili sauce. I assured her that Alberon-6 is noteworthy for its dizzying variety of plant life, including edible spices that should satisfy her demanding palate.

I negotiated the rental of our hovercraft by myself, which only served to further irritate my companion, I’m afraid.  She seems to think I am incapable of proper negotiations or spotting fraud.

I insist that our subsequent mechanical failures could have happened to anyone!

The trek through the region known by the locals as ‘The Grasping Fields’ has proven more of a challenge than I anticipated.

While a trek back to the colony on-foot was an unexpected irritation, I did not consider such to be a danger.  The planet is devoid of fauna and the local flora, while rife with ambulatory specimens, are not hostile, strictly-speaking.

And Raven is always armed with her dizzying variety of weapons.

So, as it turns out, while the local ambulatory flora is not hostile, it proves another challenge.  It seems the so-called ‘Grasping Fields’ are home to the floramorphs, a series of pseudopod-like plant organisms that are drawn to certain pheromones.

Especially pheromones emitted by human females and more so by pheromones emitted by dokkenaelves.

This is complicated by the fact that my people respond in a certain manner to tentacle-like appendages due to aspects of our native environment I shall endeavor to discuss more thoroughly in a subsequent journal entry.

And, it seems, the floramorphs are able to deliver a mild electrical charge to dissolve nanoweave garments.  Garments such as those Raven and I were wearing when we started our excursion into the wilds, as a matter of fact.  While the electric fields may be considered by some to be quite pleasant, despite the destabilizing effect on the cohesion of nano-weave armor, it was quiet disruptive to our trek.

In the interests of scientific disclosure, I must confess that it’s a trait among dokkenaelves that a degree of electrical charge, delivered to certain parts of the body, is so pleasant that it can effectively incapacitate us.  And so it, once again, fell to my human companion to find a way out of our situation.  Except she was quite occupied by a dizzying number of invasive pseudopods taking advantage of the disrupted state of our attire.
