Oooo! World Building! I always figured there was something going on that left Gem Sites untapped by humanity. Probably connected with whatever made PinkDiamond!Earth's humans so casual and uncurious about magic. My personal non-serious headcanon has always been that the sorts of humans who'd be all over exploring strange ruins were either killed off during the Crystal Rebellion (since we know they had humans in the army), or got themselves eaten by Gem Monsters well before the Common Era even kicked off. Only the 'Oh, magic, whatever' genes could survive.

I love how there's this widening spiral outwards from the OG!Steven Universe continuity throughout these. By now, all that's left is The Cluster and the three Homeworld Gems trapped on Earth. No Watermellon Stevens, no Malachite, no Peridot-assisted drill-pod. And without OG!Steven's Super-Empathy powers, I honestly have no idea how this version of the Crystal Gems are going to be able to pull this off. I love it. White Diamond Steven is a masterclass of how to do engaging AUs. I am on this ride for as long as it lasts.

Now I'm fixated on Pearl's skepticism over whether something being illegal will keep humans away, given Pearl-in-SU's confidence in the power of police tape. What is it about spending those 12 years with little Steven that gave her so much faith in the law-abidingness of humans??
