My rough sketches are what I made prior to lineart-ing the comic. I know that for good results artists typically thumbnail first - I treat this step as both the thumbnail AND the first draft. (Technically not good practice, but it cuts down on time, which we all have so little of...)

I make revisions as I lineart, moving characters or adjusting scenes based on what I already know the outcome is like.
