Hey, check it out, a new look for BOHICA News!

Just a quick update to let everyone see the new layout and graphics for the Battalion... with Recruits (free members) listed equally with everyone else, just in gold instead of the classic "engineer red". I also re-oriented the names to read from left to right instead of right to left.

But the biggest news is --what most of you probably already know-- is that Book #4, "EXTENDED!" is already out and available!

Notice a few things to the front Cover:

The price is now down to $13.00 instead of $15.00. As soon as you get the book you may feel the difference-- it is lighter than previous editions. Once you open it and touch the pages, you may also notice it is more like normal pages, instead of the glossy pages.

The glossy pages are slick and nice, but they are also expensive and heavier, which means more shipping costs. This is only a couple pennies when mailing them out to you individually, but when I get them delivered in bulk it is expensive. Lighter paper means lighter shipping and less cost overall. And I feel the quality is just as good-- did I really need those glossy pages? Probably not. And besides, they tended to retain static and stick together.

Did I mention that the books are lighter in bulk? Guess what makes them a lot more manageable when moving boxes for in-person sales at conventions? Yessiree, lighter pages all around for the win.

Back Cover:

Those of you who saw my old video on the back cover from over a year ago may remember my inspiration for the back cover: The Raft of the Medusa by Theodore Gericault from 1819. An image of desperate survivors of a shipwreck, adrift at sea and in dire straits as the enormity of their situation weighs upon them.

I dunno, it just seemed appropriate.

Also inside is a bonus comic by Mark Baker, of "PVT Murphy's war" fame. He has embarked on a journey to tell vignettes, little campfire stories of veterans' experiences over the years. Not just a collection of war stories from GWOT times, these are all sorts of tales of veterans, past and present, telling about interesting things that happened. Sometimes in training, sometimes in war, sometimes just around a chow hall table.

Anyhow, by now, most of you probably already have it in your hands. if not, then it is probably still on its way. That said, there are a few of you that need to contact me, because I need to know if your addresses are still good:

David Waters

Pete Barlow

Please contact me and let me know where to send these off.

In other news, I have Doodles loaded all the way up until January of 2025 (this years Annual Training was freakin' gold mine) and I hope to have more BOHICA Blues, some Empires progress, and maybe even some Star Wars fanfic images as well.

That said, I will be busy too; I leave Boise on August 22nd and head for Ft. Cavasos, Texas (former Fort Hood) and will be there for a month, then off to Pristina, Kosovo, and Camp Bondsteel. Rest assured that I will do my best to continue the comic there as well, and give a regular report of what it is like serving in "sunny, downtown Kosovo".

I may miss a few days here and there but it is for a good cause, and I will resume as soon as possible. This is one of the reasons why I haven't made videos in a long time-- videos are a huge time suck, with a lot of editing and such, and they are a luxury I have not been able to indulge in for awhile. I hope to get some videos of Kosovo, though, so stay tuned.

until later!
