The latest in updates! First of all, I'd like to welcome Lilith Iden to the ranks of Platoon sergeant after spending some time in the Private tier for quite awhile. Congratulations!

Also, a new Recruit has joined as a Free member: War Murals collects pictures of war murals drawn by troops from around the world, in different deployments across the span of time. We ran across each other on social media (X/Twitter, IIRC) and I really liked the work he has collected. These are works of art from simple graffiti (like the classic "Kilroy was Here") to elaborate and carefully crafted murals and military/troop-themed tags around the world. Great stuff, I recommend checking out his work online!

And, since this news bulletin was created, CoalBlackWolf has also joined as a free member! Thank you, and welcome aboard!

Anyone can join as a Free member and snoop around before joining the Battalion "for real". Follow along and you can decide if you want to march along to the beat of our Different Drummers.

BOHICA Blues Book #4: Extended! now in a UPS truck on the way!

Yes! Book #4 is printed, and is now being delivered literally as you read this!

The book tops out at 88 pages, including covers, and I am experimenting with some new printing ideas that will make the price lower. These babies will only be $13.00 instead of the usual $15. How often do prices go down in this economy? Well, it's happening here! If this works I will print future books (and re-print previous editions) the same way and lower the prices.

This issue also features a short story, "Night Driving", by Mark Baker of "PVT Murphy's Law"

A four-page short story is included with Book #4 by PVT Murphy's very own Mark Baker! Mark is doing specials where he features short stories by veterans-- vignettes that may be funny, tragic, illuminating, or insightful. Some of them are war stories, some are just tales of training and camp life. He is putting together a larger book with other veteran cartoonists that will expand on this theme, so stay tuned. Will BOHICA Blues ever become part of that bandwagon? Perhaps so! There are plans for me to do a few vignettes myself for the next edition of the Veterans' Tales.

Wait, did you say, "re-prints of previous editions"?

Yes I did! I recently went to Gem State Comic Con here in Boise at the beginning of April this year and was surprised to find that I am almost sold out of issues #1 (BOHICA Blues: Mobilized!) and issue #2 (BOHICA Blues: Line of Departure). I have plenty of issue #3 (BOHICA Blues: Fallujah) but I only have about 4 or 5 copies of the others left! So probably around the time I get ready to return from Kosovo I will be getting ready to re-print more of those editions.

Speaking of the Deployment, what's going to happen here at Patreon?

I intend to keep posting here at Patreon and at the regular comic site, as well as Instagram, Tapas, and so on. I am assured that we will have internet available to us, so there should be no reason to suspend any operations here. I will try to pre-load a bunch of scheduled posts here (in fact, I have Doodles loaded through July, and a third installment of "KGB: Kelly in the Caribbean" being readied) to cover periods of travel. That said, there may be some turbulence here and there, so if I lose a few days here and there around August, don't be surprised.

The most important thing is, all funds generated here by Patreon go entirely to the support of comics creation. That means:

  • Keeping the Website running

  • Paying for printing & shipping expenses

  • Buying upgrades for art supplies, programs, computer stuff

 Other Projects:

I've mentioned that, for the most part, my other projects are going to be on the back burner for the time being. However, I will continue to make some progress on some of the Empires project.

I am working on some re-designs to a couple of my alien races, and also I have begun the process of turning the old 1990's-era black-and-white comic into a manga-style re-release. I am not re-doing the art (no way, brothers and sisters, that's like 440 pages) but I am going to re-size it to fit a Manga-style print size, re-do the lettering so it is consistent, and print the whole thing as one giant volume.

There will be some new stuff added, as well. I will look back on the project after 30+ years, with some insights, commentary, and go more in-depth into some backstory and explanations. I'll also include some newer, up to date artwork, as well as some sneak peeks at the new, re-booted version being worked on. Needless to say there'll be a lot of changes: those of you in the Platoon Sergeant tier know what I'm talking about, since I've shared some of the more recent images with you!

  Other projects:

Medieval Fantasy series "Crystallized": on hold for now, but with plans to write script as time allows.

Wolf Project (Name TBD): Research books purchased but no movement yet. No solid plans until post-Kosovo.

1920's Alt-History Project and Last Of Us Short Fanfic "Dark Territory": LOL, maybe when I retire? --which actually isn't that far off, really.

In the meantime, stay tuned and keep reading comics.

I am excited for the Manga-style re-release of the classic Empires works. I have gotten several close friends literally hooked on the old furry Empires stuff. Ace of Spades, Morrigan's War, Thunderhead, Borderline and the text stories have all captured the hearts of my friends. I scanned all four parts of Borderline from Huzzah! last week and I could help to clean up the poor-quality scans that appeared in Borderline part 2 due to those originals going missing years ago. As promised, I will help to fund the re-release and I am sure that some of my friends would be only too happy to help in that regard as well.

Random Coyote Productions

Oh, wow, that would be cool! I may just do a Kickstarter in that case. I have never done one before and I heard they can really take the edge off of printing costs.

Awesome. Sounds like some cool developments.
