Time to welcome aboard some new faces!

Wayne Gilcoine has moved up from a Free follower to a full-fledged Private! Meanwhile, Fox Whitworth has joined as a Free member!

Yes, Patreon allows for Free memberships! You can "try on" a membership and see if you like it! As a result I try to make more of my posts each month available to all members-- frequently Doodles and such, but also WIP Wednesdays and sometimes sneak peeks at future comics or other projects.

I have a pretty regular schedule on Patreon:

Mondays are days when I post Doodles. These are just free-ranging thoughts I doodle in my notepads when I am forced to attend boring meetings or group training events. It looks like I'm taking notes, but... no, not really.

WIP Wednesdays! WIP stands for Works In Progress and most of the time that means BOHICA Blues comics that are being developed from pencil to final colors, but sometimes I post other things I am working on.

Fridays or Freaky Fridays: At the end of the week I'll post a grab bag of stuff, usually early views of BOHICA Blues comics a few days in advanced (Specialist and above), or views of my science-fiction comic being worked on (Platoon Sergeant tier). Sometimes it is a video of me doing my art and making commentary on stuff.

Today's BOHICA News is mostly to welcome new members and post the benefits of Patreon membership in a sort of recruiting drive. Because of my upcoming deployment to Kosovo with the NATO "KFOR" mission, I have had to put a lot of my other projects on a bit of a back-burner. My only real exceptions are the "Vox Noctem" anthology with local creators and some fairly slow development work on the "Empires" science-fiction story.

  • Gem State Comic Con 2024

I did really well at GSCC this year, which is good because I am going to miss Boise Comic Arts Festival for 2024 and GSCC 2025. I will be back from Kosovo sometime in late Summer/early Fall of 2025 and may be able to participate in Boise Comic Arts Festival in 2025.

  • But at GSCC this year I sold a lot of BOHICA Blues comics!  In fact I need to re-order issues #1 and #2 because I am almost completely out, and will use the opportunity to address some printing errors I noticed with the two.

  • Part of this years GSCC success was the arrival of Book #3, "Fallujah". I tried to order it in time for last years convention but it was still being delivered and didn't show up in time. This year I had plenty of copies, which is nice because it made up for the lack of Book #4, "Extended". I sent Book #4 to the printer but when they sent me a digital proof, it was all screwed up and I didn't have time to fix it all in time. I am trying to get it print-ready again before I go so it will be waiting for me upon my return.

Other Projects:

The Vox Noctem anthology is about halfway done.

The Empires sci-fi project continues to develop slowly.

The Medieval Fantasy and Wolf projects are both on temporary hiatus. That said, if I can get the first book of the Medieval Fantasy series scripted, I think I have an artist that can provide me with pencils that I will ink myself. So there may be progress on that once things settle into a routine.

Lessons Learned from Gem State Comic Con:

I need to expand my body of works with these other projects. BOHICA Blues has decent appeal, but it is pretty niche. The science fiction and fantasy projects in particular will give me more reach at my booth.

I need to compile my old "furry version" of early Empires comics into a single, thick Manga-sized book. I'll include new color covers, re-do all the lettering so it is consistent, and maybe add some additional chapters about the history of the project, how it has changed over the years, and what the new rebooted version will look like. There's an unusual amount of interest in that old story that I can't explain but what the hey, if people like it I can provide.

Until later, thanks for being a most awesome audience!
