This series so damn good, man. The pacing is beyond incredible and the immersion is so on point. I can't wait to see what is going to happen next with those demons. Enjoy.

The Concept of the Demons in Frieren is a nice change compared to other Storys since the demons here are predators who hunt humans for food. When that demon kid in the flash back was saying she wanted a peaceful life, she was talking about her life not the villagers. She only sees the villagers as food stock, like the way we see cattle. We don't make peace with our cattle but what we do is tame them so it is easier to harvest.

Very true, these Demons kind of remind me of the more Nasty Devils from D&D. Or a Faustian Devil basically, it's a nice break from the mindless evil for evils sake demons in most shows. With exception that they seem to not keep their contracts/promises, so maybe more D&D Demons?

This series does the the older way of depicting demons. Unlike the modern/anime way of showing demons as human-like in emotions and goals. Despite what they look like demons in this are 100% evil. They only speak human language because they eat humans, and slowly evolved that trait, the demon Lord was probably the strongest and most evolved/oldest of his kind, and thus "uniting" a largely solitary race like demons was probably what made him so much more dangerous than just being exceptionally powerful and deceiving. His Seven sages are also that level of threat, being that they use their strength/power to unify demons under their name and banner. But it is all to hunt/slay/massacre - and then eat - greater numbers of humans. Also a rather important point on the importance of a Mage's Staff/Stick/wand/focus/whatever.. Most people (especially US Reactors) tend to see a mages staff as "like a gun" and if you take it away, then the mage is essentially "disarmed". This is also a very modern take on Spellcasters and is probably due to a lot of crossover with many stories/anime taking this route for ease of storytelling devices lately... but this generally ISN'T how most fantasy stories handle mages/witches/warlocks/sorcerers/etc.. tho. Basically a mage is the SOURCE of all that power in either their internal mana stores or in their control of mana "flow" from the environment. This series is the former. So essentially a mage like Frieren or Fern is technically NEVER UNARMED. A note on this is a mage on Frierens or Fern's level could probably easily resist being captured by those guards if they really wished it, but then they would quickly become wanted throughout the human civilisation, as word would spread of the crimes. Killing or even attacking a guard in this setting is considered an extreme offence, considering guards are essentially both the police and military of these kinds of societies, answering directly to the rulers/lawmakers/military leaders of the area.. So it's better for someone with time to kill to just be captured and wait it out than to potentially become outcast from civilisation... This "Never unarmed" kind of power, is just like how a warrior like stark, Eisen, Himmel the Hero would still be monstrously strong even without their sword or axes. Stark is not yet as strong as Eisen was in his prime, or anywhere near the power of Himmel, and he still 2 shot a Solar Dragon. so imagine how powerful Stark would be in a fist fight, without his axe. He probably has -at minimum - the same power as Eisen in his old age - unarmed - did to him, to blow someone 20-30 feet away from himself, through a door... or wall made of stone. But back to Staves - A Mage's Staff is just a FOCUS or CONDUIT with which to focus their mana/magic through for greater or more precise control over their spells... and sometimes it is even an amplifier of their power. In this world it seems that the staff is purely of the FOCUS kind. So even if Frieren is without it, she still has her vast reserves of mana, and all her spells she knows. She's also been around 1000+ years. So her control and reserves would be beyond 10x what any incredibly powerful human could achieve, even though she hasn't been directly studying it the entire time, neither would a human... exception to this are generally due to some kind of plot/writing thing like a divine blessing or something used in other series (like the cheat skills in an isekai anime). And being a prodigy/"genius" would also be on that same level, like Flamme the Legendary Mage, who was a Human and Frieren's Master/Teacher.

Yea I see that, great reaction mate - and yea it's been a recurring theme I see from a lot of others. TBF a lot of authors use it as a "crutch" for their characters these days, but smart writers just put in countermeasures like anti magic or suppression AoE spells or shackles or barriers of some sort, and world build around it. Frieren's world is like that, and I don't really need to say it to you mate, as you've seen it/commented on it yourself & how well written this world is. Can't wait for your next one!
