Okay, I didn't even think about Prince Al doing that... This just got even more interesting. I love the politics at play along with the characterization for Al. The end justifies the means for him, and I can't say I agree with his methods. What did you all think of this episode? Are you ready for the sibling fight in Episode 9?

Some information about Magic in that world that was in vol.1 of the novel and wasn't fully explained in the anime (I just started reading, the anime is currently on vol.2 so there shouldn't be any spoilers): The common understanding of magic in the world is that magic is the result of spirits manifesting people prayers. And spirits are revered, higher spirits are even seen godlike/gods. Contrary to that Anis theorizes that (lower) Spirits don’t have free will, they are incorporeal beings that simply float through the world acting only on instinct. Feeding them energy makes them transform, and that’s what they call magic, and they turn back to normal once you stop feeding them energy. Now according to Anis, they simply instinctually are drawn to magic power as a form of sustenance and are therefore drawn to people and let them “use magic”. People’s affinity for magic types is supposedly simply a trait of their magic power, certain types of spirits like their magic power/can feed of it so that is the type of magic they can use. She believes the ability to use magic to be a remnant of the founding of the Kingdom, when the founding King and the originators of the noble families entered into Spirit covenants with higher level spirits (they seem to actually have a conscious and free will). People of their “bloodline” produce magic power that works well as a food source for spirits, so they usually have an affinity for magic. Anis does have magic power, but the spirits don’t feed of it, she suspects it’s because she is reincarnated, she does have the blood and body of a royal, so she should be able to do it, so she thinks that it’s her soul that is different and that magic power comes from that soul. So, the idea is that there are simply no spirits that are attracted to the magic power coming from this different soul, so she can’t use them to use magic in the traditional sense.
