You asked a couple of questions about the timeline, so let me take a crack at it without any spoilers. Background: The Japanese school year starts in the spring. There's a month-long summer break, but it's not the boundary between school years. (We see a calendar turned to August this episode.) There was some point in the past when "Kaguya the Ice Princess" wore her hair down, like we see in Shirogane's flashback. There we see her wearing her winter uniform (long sleeves), so it's somewhere between fall and spring. In Kaguya's flashback she's got her hair up and she doesn't seem as cold, so that's presumably sometime later. They're preparing for Christmas, so probably last December. In the first episode we see them, both already in the student council, laughing to themselves about how the other is going to confess any day, and then "half a year passed! Nothing of note happened during that period." All throughout they're still wearing winter uniforms, and they don't switch out of them till the beginning of episode 5. I think it's safe to say the order is Shirogan'es flashback sometime last fall, then the beginning of episode 1 sometime after that, then Kaguya's flashback during the timeskip, and then the rest of episode 1 is in the beginning of their second year in the spring. That should have been around Ishigami's entrance to the high school, and at some point he enters the student council.
