This episode shows us how Sally met Mikoto, and this is apparently the episode that should have been episode 1. If it was then I personally wouldn't be as hooked as I am now. I'm curious about this vampire next episode!

It all (mostly) makes sense now that the series has shown us everything that was mixed around, with the except of the chapters skipped (from what I have been told) to get to the tournament w/ Hawthorn in Episode 3, from what should have been the immediate continuation of Episode 2's shocking final scene... but hey, I'll trust we'll get those chapters soon!

Yeah, I feel the way the anime did it was better. Just a personal preference.

So, in case you (or anyone) weren't aware, the mangaka (author) behind Peach Boy Riverside's manga, the source for this anime, is also the creator (& artist) behind Kobayashi's Maid Dragon, a beloved series & anime, especially with the first season's director tragically perishing in the Kyoto Animation arson attack... Season 2's currently airing alongside PBR, so it's a good season for fans of this creator's talent.

Episode 4 was definitely good to see what the "first events" should have been, but I do agree, PBR wouldn't have been nearly as attention grabbing as it has been if we hadn't gotten what we did, the shock value and "fend for yourselves" tossing us into this world made it much more interesting!

...you know, it's sorta ironically hilarious that a series based around a folk tale / myth / legend of Japan starts with the classic line, "once upon a time," that you'd often associate with them, it's a nice touch tbh

*MUST. RESIST. THE. URGE. TO. MAKE. AN. EXTREMELY. IMMATURE. YET. HILARIOUS. JOKE. ABOUT. ANRIKU'S. NUT. ALLERGY* Lmao

It does feel like Sally might have been traumatized by tentacles in the past... it's presented almost in a "backstory" flashback style, but who knows, maybe she was reading her father's porn stash and got an overactive imagination XD ...but hey, the King deserves bonus points for not being absolutely moronic or absurdly stubborn in keeping Sally in the kingdom, we saw on two (very different) occasions that he seemed compassionate and understanding of her desire, not pressing the matter further and letting her choose her own path when she was ready... he was a good parent, sometimes hard to find in anime! lol

Okay, I'll stop gushing with this last comment, but the fact that a (literal) line of blood, guts, & dismembered ogres separated Mikoto & Sally to show the difference of their worlds, their "state of beings" (with Mikoto calmly walking past the corpses, Sally collapsing to vomit), is just fucking fantastic symbolism for storytelling... I love it so much! Lol

King is a great father. Just like Byakuya. Not like Ging and Grisha. LMAO!
