My personal theory's that Muzan was nearly killed by one of Tanjiro's ancestors, given that Muzan has been around for a long time, and that glimpse into his past showed someone with similar colored hair and those hanafuda earrings. So maybe Tanjiro's family wasn't killed randomly, but more to cut down the bloodline that nearly killed him?

Muzan's crazy, that's for sure. And I am already excited to see even /more/ of this villain. Gotta say, that whole "blood pump" scene was insane, gruesome, and very well animated... so much so that I went and rewatched it a couple times.. Can we also talk about how unnerving his "Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong" line of dialogue was? Lol

Well, his father hasn't been shown yet so it might not be that far back. It'd make sense if it was Tanjiro's dad since the family he wiped out would be the most direct harm he could do.
