Lvl 43 Attack based Class ( Motoyasu) vs Defend Only Class Lvl 21 ( Naofumi). You cant really call it a Duell and it pissed me off extremly in the Light Novel, seeing it in the Anime made me now even more Angryer ^^ The reason we see Raphtalia in her child form in Naofumi's perspective is because his horrible experiences has jaded himself so much, scarred his mentality it has affected him such as not being able to taste food and viewing Raphtalia as the 10 year old kid he buys from the Slave Trader the whole time. You see hints of this in the previous episode where the Blacksmith comments how Raph has grown so much but Naofumi doesn't see it. It was only until this very episode where Raphtalia saves him that he finally gets to see the fully grown Raphtalia, and at the end was able to taste food again. Love this episode so much, was waiting for it after reading the Light Novel. And yeah i cant wait to see Filo finally in Animated Form. I loved her so much in the Light Novel like i loved Raphtalia and im so hyped, its fucking hard to wait a whole Week for a new Episode. I can only say about Filo, it got be a funny Surprise next Week. But i think we maybe see her completly in all her Glory first in Episode 6 and Episode 5 will introduce her. Btw Raphtalia's VA was doing the singing at the end part.

I also have some more detailed things, based with Informations from the Light Novel: After the betrayal, he lost the ability to trust others and his motivation to help fight the waves so his approach became to just survive the waves until he was able to return to his own world. He bought Raphtalia because she was the cheapest slave and also because he wanted to subjugate the same gender as the one who betrayed him. Despite his negative approach, his kindness started to seep out, he took real good care of Raphtalia and saved the villagers from the wave who were ignored by the other heroes and knights. After Raphtalia and a few other citizens show their gratitude and loyalty to him, he decided to really give it his all to save their world. Though Naofumi did save the village during the first wave, everyone in the castle and the other heroes berated Naofumi for not fighting the boss of the wave, even though they know he has no attack power. They called him a failed hero for not putting himself on the line for others. They even claimed that he was a failure as a human being. An attempt was made to take his only slave, Raphtalia under the pretext of Melromarc against slavery with a rigged duel in favor of his opponent, Motoyasu. but was failed. After the Bankett, on the next Morning, he was turned away, when he appeared for breakfast or dinner in the castle, during the celebration of the first wave subjugation, stating that the other heroes and knights are eating. During the same celebration, he and Raphtalia were not provided with any rooms, they themselves find some old dusty, uncleaned, store room or servant room in a remote corner to stay with no furniture or cloth. The cold treatment of the shield hero prevailed by almost all of the castle staff.
