Wednesday has come again, and it has brought with it a new playbook for Necromancy: The Surgeon.

The Surgeon is a champion of life. All human life, without discrimination. Life at any cost. Life in any state. Where life persists, after all, there is hope, and where would any of us be without that?

The Surgeon is the only "healer" archetype within Necromancy, although it's a very long way from the cleric or white mage you might see in other games. Most clerics aren't inspired by the filmography of David Cronenberg or the manga Franken-Fran, but hey: at least The Surgeon cares. At least they're doing something. Possibly to you.

I've been waiting for this one. I'll talk more on it after I can read it.

The Surgeon, the Paladin, and the Monster Hunter seem like they could be a good team. Paladin defends whichever person needs it more, the Surgeon makes sure the Monster Hunter doesn't die, and the Hunter brings the pain. The Surgeon is definitely less combat capable than the other classes, but they seem like they should be pretty fun anyway, yeah. I have complex feelings on body horror, but broadly speaking, it doesn't freak me out particularly much. So, I like this one. If I ever did get to play the game, I think I'd enjoy seeing just how creepy a monster I could be with this playbook, and just try to one-up everyone else. Watching the Surgeon and the Necromancer argue over which of them gets this corpse should be interesting. Well, as long as you're far enough away. The fact that, in an emergency, you can, hypothetically, ask everyone in the community to help out with a blood drive to save anyone who has been injured is very nice and pretty creepy, yes. ...I think you might wanna consider a sidebar discussing just how stupid it is to graft monster parts to yourself or other people. Because I just know SOMEONE is considering harvesting that Manticore for any usible organs and ..No! Stop that right now! Do NOT put that in....*sigh* So, yeah, a sidebar listing some idea for just how bad things can get when a Surgeon tries adding monster parts to their organ reserve or other people could be useful. Though I suppose you could just say "See: Infected Playbook." Finding ways to keep the surgeon "fed" without turning on your community and using them as a larder of spare parts seems like a complicated proposition. I mean, generally speaking, you're hunting monsters, which you can't harvest for organs and, if your people are dying often enough that you can supply a Surgeon and a Necromancer your community is going to dissolve from attrition if it doesn't dissolve from fear first. Other human groups might be potential targets, but not everyone out there are "evil raiders," and, really, just how common are wanderers that haven't been cursed or mutated already?

The necromancer at least can maybe go rummaging around in a graveyard. The Surgeon... well. Tick tick tick goes the panic clock.
