You may actually remember our new host, Laura Klivans, as she's actually collaborated with Deep Look in the past! (You can watch these episodes in this special playlist.)

We've bid a fond farewell to Lauren Sommer, our previous host and environment reporter at KQED, who is now covering climate change news for NPR’s science desk.

Laura's favorite Deep Look video so far is the 100th episode –– all about kidnapper ants –– which premiered in September 2019. “It’s just such an amazing battle that you would never see or think about or know about without this macro-footage that Deep Look provides. That episode highlights what I really love about Deep Look.  It uncovers something that is just beneath the surface or is just happening around us that we’re not even aware of."

Besides hosting Deep Look, Laura has a lot of other duties on her plate: health reporting for KQED and teaching at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. Before joining our science unit, she previously worked in education, where she led students abroad. One of her favorite jobs was teaching on the Thai-Burmese border with immigrants and refugees.

Please join us in welcoming Laura back to our team!
