Producer Gabriela Quirós waited for a tsetse fly to bite her so we could film the action for a Deep Look episode on these insects. Tsetse flies transmit sleeping sickness to humans and nagana to cattle in many African countries. This particular fly is one of the research subjects of medical entomologist Geoff Attardo, at the University of California, Davis. All his flies, which are reared in captivity, are uninfected.

Stay tuned for the episode; our Patreon supporters will get an early look this Friday, January 24!
