It was really interesting getting a glimpse into a reality that could have been and just how vastly different all the friend's lives are but also what stayed the same. Enjoy :)

I was watching a marathon of your strangers thing. I'm all caught up. I need to catch up in friends. Putting it in my watch to-do-list. Now, I'm heading out to film.

DrFlareon

It's fine not being so much invested in these two episodes, People usually skip them on rewatches of the show. Since they don't really have anything to do with the canon timeline and such. No Worries. It's the same with the clip show episodes, People also usually skip those on rewatches.

Tom

I loved the 'what if' diversion. I always wished there was more of fat-monica and drunk-monica in the show. I got the impression Courteney enjoyed them. And I don't think your response was like Chandler. I think it was Monica. You obviously like your timelines CLEAN. 😂

TheCocoaCouch

You got me there 😆 obviously Monica is a just of a different breed but for sure I’m probably closer to her than the others if we’re being really honest.

Raquel Perodin

Even in the alternate universe Chandler and Monica still find their way to each other. So sweet 🥹 soulmates for sure 💖 probably my favorite tv couple ever. I absolutely love phoebes hair 😍

Heather Geer

I like that you still see the heart of the characters in this universe lol. I know back during this time making fun of “fat” people was more acceptable, but it’s a little hard to watch now if I’m honest 😬. But I like that it still didn’t matter to Chandler bc Monica is his person. Also I appreciated how you responded in general as always, very respectfully lol.

A Downes

I just absolutely adore your reactions, they are literally one of the highlights to my week! Your reaction are so sincere. I think I like that there's just no pretence to any of them, you just genuinely enjoy the show and it's a pleasure to watch it along with you 🥰🥰🥰

Jeanette Dawe

I usually skip these episodes on my rewatches lol but they have their funny moments, but like you said where it isn't canon and just hypothetical then it isn't as interesting to me.

Katie Niekamp

The fat suit episodes are hard to watch in general but they're basically not worth cringing through when they offer no real plot movement or character development. It's a shame the humor punches so low and shallow in Monica's backstory because "overcame childhood obesity" is a rich well for storytelling purposes. Since it's not even legitimate backstory here, it feels like all suffering, no rewards.

I've heard these episodes are due to the producers' need to write it on short notice since previous plans included a six-episode arc involving Rachel's sister Jill. There were rumours of on-set tensions between Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon but both actresses have always denied any animosity. It's more likely that Reese was unavaible due to scheduling conflicts. These are definitely not my favourites but I'm surprised to hear so many people skip them. I enjoy them and love how the characters are still pretty much the same (except for Phoebe which is my only gripe). Fun facts: This is the first appearance by Cole Sprouse as Ben. He and his twin brother Dylan were on a popular Disney Channel show called The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (and its spin-off The Suite Life on Deck). They were also in the movie Big Daddy with Adam Sandler. Both brothers took a break from acting and went to college. Cole studied archaeology, and even though it's different from paleontology (paleontology is the study of fossils while archaeology is the study of human artifacts and remains), they're heavily connected and often work together. So I imagine Ross would be proud 🤣 As an adult, Cole has starred in the show Riverdale, which coincidentally is based on the same comic that Chandler sells his story to, and the movie Five Feet Apart. Also, especially now when there is so much talk about the downsides of being a child star, I recommend this in-depth interview with him on YouTube - "Cole Sprouse: My Narcissistic Mum Sacrificed My Childhood For Fame" - https://youtu.be/3XP9J3UyTUo?si=3T8k8do6JiJqU6_P. He has opened up about the dysfunctional relationship he and his brother have had with their mother and how the entertainment industry appealed to their mother's addiction and narcissistic behaviour. The brothers are now both estranged from her. The other doctor and patient while they're shooting Days of our Lives are actual characters from the show played by the real actors. Also, when Rachel and Joey are walking on the set it's the real Friends set (the daytime backdrop for the view from Monica's apartment can be seen). And the old man Joey mentions had actually retired a few days before the episode was shot. These episodes emphasise something the show's fans rarely notice. In Monica's kitchen there is a different table with matching chairs, unlike all of the other episodes where she has a table and four completely different chairs. This was an inside joke by the producers, since the usual table with the mismatched chairs is something that Monica the perfectionist would never have. The couch in Monica's apartment is the same couch that Ross bought and attempted to move into his apartment during the infamous "Pivot!" scene in S5. The hair clip that Monica is wearing when Chandler tells her that he wants to be her boyfriend is the same one that she wears in the S4 finale after they have sex for the first time in London. Joey's apartment is the same apartment he lived in for part of S2. The unusual chair is borrowed from the set of Star Trek: The Next Generation. One of the ways in which Carol and Susan are displayed as alternate personalities is that they have swapped hairstyles; Susan's hair is straight while Carol's hair is curly, both in the same style that the other character wears in reality. This is one of the few times in S6 where Lisa Kudrow is not wearing a wig or hairpiece. Producers thought her real hair was too short for Phoebe's character. Rachel falling off the couch while drunk was Jennifer's idea and David came up with the pronunciation of "karatay" (the actual American pronounciation is "karadee").

I’m so happy you posted this today. I had to put my dog to sleep today and I really need something to make me laugh. Thank you Oscar.

Rhetorical Thrill

How funny, we're getting into the part of the show where I start skipping more episodes, but never these two, which is apparently the opposite of most people. I find the absurdity of this storyline fun and I adore how Monica and Chandler still end up together. I also love how even though Chandler's life is markedly different, he's still the same guy and dare I say, seems a bit more mentally healthy somehow.

Jim Schmitz

I'm confident that in any universe, Oscar would be the same loveable, charismatic, insightful gentleperson that we all have grown close to.

Alicia Cue

it is crazy hearing people don’t like these episodes on rewatch because i think that’s when it’s really entertaining. on a first watch like oscar said it’s not canon and while you’re seeing all this for the first time, it can be halting. but once you’ve seen all the episodes, i personally just laugh at these episodes. like i like how a lot of their core characteristics remained and we got to see them in these all new lights. i personally like cooperate phoebe i think she’s hilarious and again monica and chandler finding each other in every lifetime is true soulmate shit😭😭

Josh Z

Phoebe alone makes these episodes worth it imo because it is so different from who we know, and something about the way Ross talks about his sandwich is so damn funny to me, so while not cannon still hilarious

Tmatts

For the most part, I can agree that these episodes are pretty whatever. But MAN do I love seeing Chandler and Monica get together in this alternate universe. Especially after the beginning when Monica said she didn't think Chandler would be with her if she was still "fat." It really shows how pure their love is for each other that they can find their way to each other regardless of the circumstances in their lives.

Fantasy Land

Yay new friends episodes

Alejandros

I die every time I hear Monica say “I’m a slut” 😂🤣

fix

Next two episode will be ICONIC. I cant wait for next week

Caryl C

I'm so sorry, Alex. Many of us know that pain all too well. May happy memories of your friend comfort you.

Caryl C

I thought these episodes were a lot of fun, including the intro re-made just to match. It was sad to watch Ross struggling to keep his marriage together, but otherwise it was a lighthearted romp done creatively and true to the characters as we've come to know them. Like you, I especially enjoyed Chandler and Monica!

Fantasy Land

Or Ross imagine if carol wasn't a lesbian cus sooner or later she would figure it out or she a lesbian and is that way but doesn't know it herself

Fantasy Land

Nothing really wrong with not wanting to be with Monica when she was that fat like it's not healthy it's nothing to judge but nothing to praise nor be proud of

Fantasy Land

Actually yeah you can have twins where each could have a different father

Fantasy Land

Chandler being so offended easily like you are an assistant it's your job

Fantasy Land

Seriously Ross so dumb like wouldn't he rather have carol not be a lesbian at all cus if she didn't know herself she'd still be a lesbian and not into you at all

Fantasy Land

Even in this world Ross should see how obvious it is that carol is a lesbian and even carol should know

fix

Gosh what is your problem, like chill already. No need to get emotional over nothing. Ross did leave Carol after finding out she's a lesbian but she love her and you are telling that a person who is about to get divorce are not supposed to feel sad?

Tingeling

These episodes aren’t my favourite, but mostly because I think they didn’t do enough with it. I like the concept of a ”what if” episode, but I think it should lead to different outcomes. I don’t mind Chandler and Monica still ending up together because that is actually brought up in the opening scene (and, well, since I’m a Mondler shipper), but for everyone to basically end up the same way anyway (except Joey) feels a little unimaginative. Carol still divorces Ross and gets together with Susan, Rachel still leaves Barry, Barry still cheats on her, and Phoebe still ends up singing at Central Perk. These aren’t terrible episodes by any means, but I don’t mind skipping them either.
