Oh, this episode was so good! But they are all so good. It feels like cheating to say that. Lol.

Claire is just so badass all the time. It's so much fun just to watch people on the show react to her. I love her giving what is essentially horseshit to Laoghaire (yes, I had to look up how to spell that- I can hardly pronounce it) as a love potion. And the best part is, she wasn't even doing it to be snarky.

Looks like we've finally made it out of the castle!

My only real complaint about this episode was that she and Jamie weren't together enough. How am I supposed to swoon like this?

Dougal Mackenzie is part of Clan Mackenzie. He is the son of the previous laird (leader) and the brother of the current laird. When Dougal and Colum's father died it was decided that Colum would be Laird and Dougal the War Chief. I do not think the oath-taking where they pledge their fealty to their laird and Clan Mackenzie is a one-time event. Like after you do it once then that's it you don't have to do it again. The ceremony is part of the Gathering, along with the pig hunt and the games. For most of the clansmen, it's more like a reaffirmation of allegiance, though obv some will be first timers, like Jamie could have been. The oath was only a big deal in Jamie's case because of the circumstances.

I don't know about you, but being War Chief seems way cooler than being Laird. Lol. And also, much better suited to Dougal. I imagine he actually likes being a War Chief. Oh, that makes sense. Thank you!
