It is Japanese traditional rope bondage, that is also a kind of art here. It is popular among cosplayers, and I had been wanting to do a shibari shoot for a while now, and Mai seemed like the perfect character for it. (Maybe bc she already wears the rope thing on her back, I just felt she would suit shibari)

This rope was expensive but we wanted to use real, all natural traditional shibari rope. Black rope was chosen since it would stand out against the color of the outfit.
