Hello there!

This may not seem like a particularly summer-themed comic, but as a child I spent a lot of time, (and pocket money) in seedy seaside arcades. Space Invaders was a favourite along with Galaxian, Phoenix, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Dragon's Lair - yes, I'm a retro gaming geek and proud of it!

I discovered a fun fact while drawing this comic... The artwork on the side of the Space Invaders arcade cabinet was inspired by the 1956 sci-fi movie Forbidden Planet - the invaders look very similar to the electrified 'Monster from the Id' and even some of the rock formations are lifted from the film.

More retro game related comics to come - watch this space... 👾👾👾👾👾

The fact that you like retro arcade games makes me like you even more!

Galaga is still the best classic arcade game 😩😩😩

I'm slightly obsessed Daryl! I'm currently playing an obscure old platformer called Bagman - it's so addictive! What's your favourite retro arcade game?

Daryl Brue

Bagman? I know that one. As for my favorite arcade games, I have to many, but I'll give you my top 10: Pac-Man, 1942, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Centipede, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Moon Patrol, Dig Dug and Time Pilot.

That's a great list! I haven't played Moon Patrol yet. I enjoy some of the mid-eighties games too - Outrun, Space Harrier, Gauntlet etc. It's all good stuff :)

Galaga is great but I prefer Phoenix - it's not as finely tuned but I love the trippy sound effects👾 T x
